之前试图读她早期的日记 但是太琐碎 加上我只想了解她和她的女朋友们 所以就放弃了

感谢BBC 感谢HBO 感谢Sally 我现在真的非常着迷该剧 于是买了所谓的official companion book 伴着剧一起下饭

感觉大家应该也对Miss Lister感兴趣 所以想着就读到的一些跟剧里的做一下参照 跟大家分享一下

也想顺手整理一下时间线 毕竟大家是盼着1834年的到来

【我看到哪里写哪里 屁股后面一堆deadline 也是抽空偷闲看书 所以不定期更新】

阿姨的图镇一张 鼻血要流干了粗略的背景介绍

这里introduction描述的是在剧开始之前的一些背景

小时候爹妈就管不住 但是成绩好大家也都没办法 数学好 一生都酷爱读书 有极高的求知欲 而且非常自律【剧里她一直都在看表There was never a point in her life when there was any loss in form, no hiatus in production - just consistent, detailed, daily accounts of what she did, what she saw and what she felt.

初恋是在寄宿学校认识的Eliza Raine（这大家应该都知道了） 不过书里提到的说是first sexual relationship 🤔后来被劝退一是因为这段恋情 二是因为也到处撩其他女孩子们【这个渣T【这里不知道理解的对不对 书里说是but also for her disruptive behaviour towards the other girls】S01 E02S01 E02S01 E02

然后1815年 24的Anne正式搬到Shibden 跟Aunt Anne 和Uncle James一起住

1817年的时候决定 永远穿黑色【除了一些不得已的场合

所以参加前任的婚礼时:S01 E02

Anne 解释说是【她最爱的】Mariana在16年前出嫁时她就开始穿一身黑 没错 她就是Anne念念不忘的Mariana 1813年相恋 直到1816年M结婚

剧里提到她解刨人体， 日记里也提到她1831年在巴黎的经历: 'an arm, a head and a number of foetuses' 【他妈的哪里是仅仅解刨过一个胎儿啊 明明是若干】S01 E02

虽然后来她叔叔死后（1826年） 让她继承Shibden 但是因为她Aunt Anne 还有老爹还活着【直到这两人1836年去世】所以那时她在资金使用权方面还是限制

身高大概165 (5 feet, 4½ inches)， 体重大概52，53公斤(8 stone, 4¼ pounds) 平胸 声音低沉 walked at a greate pace with an imposing upright stance 【Suranne真的外形很符合了 走姿也很到位】

我非常欣赏她的一点是她在那个年代能有正确的认知且坚定不移.

1816年8月的日记提到she 'should never marry' and that she 'could not like men'， 而且我不记得哪里看到了 分析说Anne在这个年代会是个女转男trans 但是书里明确打了那个作者的脸:she wanted to love women as a woman - and not as a woman dressed as a man

前面提过Anne是一个求知欲很强的人 一生都在孜孜不倦的学习（和做实验）

所以在学习了‘female organs of generation'后 1832年2月17日她记录到finding out distinctly for the first time in my life the clitoris

她在探索女性身体的道路。。。。她其实很早之前就有了这方面的认知。。。。。。。。

【 毕竟早些年 在不懂的时候 1825年1月13日她还把阴蒂描述为just like an internal penis

后来在1831年4月24日记录到自己'spent the next few months getting better acquainted with it, periodically locking herself in her water-closet 'try to enlarge' it through 'titillation' '【我这里已经笑死了哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈】

她反正经常对自己做些奇怪的性试验啦 但是普通人不会记录 她却啥都写

有次试着把自己的手指塞到菊花里 想尝试下'鸡奸'能带来的快感 ('to see what pleasure sodomy could give')【救命啊】

她反正就一直是攻的角色 她记录的性行为都有oral sex, finger penetration and queer 'closeness', or vagina-on-vagina touching 【这些我就不翻译了。。】但是从来不用toys

她的床伴有11个【哈？？才11个？？？】 她跟大多数前任保持了良好的朋友关系

一些情史网上也能查到我就不说了【或者等我赶完deadline我再写】 事实上她也多次打算跟恋人结婚 反正都无果 然后到了她四十岁的时候 她想settle down的心越发认真了 心中的完美wife是有钱的受过良好教育的贵族

那时候也就是剧开始的时候 她跟Vere Hobart【关系从1829到1832】掰了 ⬇️Vere还是她一位前任Sibbella Maclean的侄女【Anne真的很努力地在睡女孩子】

所以1832年心碎回到Shibden 那时候Aunt Anne 66岁 饱受风湿折磨; father Jeremy 79岁 听力日渐下降；妹妹Marian 34岁

然后有一天 隔壁的Ann Walker来拜访...============= 【突然的更新是因为发现deadline不是今天而是明天 哈哈哈哈哈哈】====================================1829 - 1832 with Vere Hobart

读完后我感觉Vere像那种 不说是 也不说不是 跟你绕弯子 反反复复 一会儿晾着你一会儿由着你 内心已经决定要嫁人【还在等对方求婚】 但是还不让你去撩其他女孩子 等到确定了婚事 然后跟你拜拜的那种直女 —— 不过这是以Anne的视角来看的 或许是有点片面

刚开始Anne对Vere的印象并不好，1829年遇见对方的时候在日记里觉得她蠢（Vere was 'goose'） 一会儿又直接说头脑简单（branded her a 'noodle'）之后跟自己的旧情人Mariana Lawton对比后评价Vere是'a good humoured fat girl'（1829年7月30日） - 。 。-

Anne这种智商的人 觉得普通人笨也是很正常了 但是她真的太坏了 整天在日记里写妹子们的坏话 虽然觉得她也在拿自己的阅历评价小年轻 Vere在1829年的时候只有27岁 Anne都要奔四了

但是随着两个人更多的接触 Anne改变了主意：真香 她开始对Vere献殷勤 也开始暗示自己对她的喜欢 日记里详细记录了两人暧昧的细节 比如她可以给Vere脱去睡衣(gown) 但是里面的衬裙(petticoats)不行; Vere还给她弹情歌; 她夸Vere 'she was pretty, had the prettiest mouth I ever saw' (类似的招数是不是对Miss Rawson用过) and noted Vere took the compliment very well. 所以在1829年10月13-14的日记里说恩 这妹子喜欢我

1829年10月17日的旅行笔记里提到过 两个人单独在一起的时候 Vere提到过When Anne happened to touch her, it led to a 'ticklish' feeling she could not quite fathom.😂

Anne还跟Vere说呀我要搞一套加密字母表啦 我们可以用这些secret code给对方写信呀【这一招其实Anne常用 来勾搭那些有点意思的妹子们】

煤老板真的对自己非常自信且自恋 Vere暧昧不已的态度也是一起拉她往坑里掉 比如最早在1829年7月30日她在日记里记录到说 'Vere明确说她以后一定会嫁人 但是同时又说很喜欢跟我在一起’;

第二天的日记还对这段关系抱有积极的幻想：I cannot quite make Miss H out – whether she does not like me much, whether I have overdone it with attentation – or whether she likes me and does not want to show it – and rather flirts with me. Is the latter possible?

Anyway, Vere是个伯爵的女儿 算是个小贵族吧 周围交际圈也都类似 跟这种小上流阶层比 没什么钱的地主Anne跟她的Shibden是差了一些 然而Anne天生善于交际 一直都渴望往上游 怎么会错过这种social的机会呢？从日记来看她非常努力在讨好Vere周围的posh friends 而且非常想融入 一个小细节是Vere有次somehow提到煤老板一年有5000英镑的收入 对此煤老板没有纠正; 日记也开始更加流露出对medium people的嫌弃(也包括Mariana Lawton) 说did not suit her any more.

在这里煤老板的形象是不是有点掉

不知道为什么书里几乎没有提到1830年的日记(仅有一处) 大多数笔墨都是1829年她想讨好Vere 她跟上流社会的交际 以及1831秋-1832年春的心碎Hastings事件

由此也引入了剧的开始 所有人都问她那里发生了什么

书里也没有明确提煤老板跟Vere是否有更深入的关系 【恩没错我是指两个人到底有没有睡过】 只是说在巴黎的时候两个人没有更进一步 但是Vere一直对她有所保留 比如之前完全没有提Donald Cameron 一直到1831年秋在Hastings

1831年9月20日的日记里明确的看出煤老板应该是知道了Donald 并且内心受了伤 但是她立马就萌生了备胎计划也是。。。。她写道 'I may take the society this winter at Hastings, and then Lady Gordon will suit me much better' 😂【Lady Gordon是煤老板跟Vere的共同好友】

不过煤老板的字典里从来就没有放弃两个字 她对自己的高度自信让她觉得能跟Donald Cameron竞争 哎。。之后撞得灰头土脸大家也都知道了

Vere在被求婚之前对煤老板是忽冷忽热【我猜可能是因为等求婚等得很焦躁吧】 从记录来看1831年的秋冬是煤老板最惨的时候 Vere大多数非常冷漠 并觉得她无趣 并表示不想多待在一起 有时候却不拒绝亲密 比如1831年12月31日 Anne kissed Vere gently on the lips and Vere didn't say anything 让煤老板觉得1832年会有所好转

但是被迅速打脸 新年后两个人反正不断的争吵 连goodnight kisses都没了 1月9日Donald Cameron终于现身 Anne对他的第一印象竟然还不错

3月份的时候Vere其实想离开Hastings 但是Donald还是没跟她求婚 未来还没有着落 所以她就想先把Anne留在身边 as a potential 'companion', and did not want to lose Anne's affections to another woman. 【讲道理这里我其实半信半疑 毕竟这些结论肯定是从Anne的日记里得出的我猜 加上煤老板是多自恋的人啊】

说真的我完全不懂为什么煤老板还要在那里耗 1832年初的日记里各种心碎 各种孤独寂寞冷 然而她却一直拖到了4月13日 才有了回家的想法 并终于开始打包东西

突然 4月15日Donald求了婚 Anne在当天的日记里简短地记录到: she will not say no 那时候煤老板刚刚过了41岁生日没两周

伤心欲绝了一段时间后 Anne前往伦敦 并在29号时候她一时兴起去Cheltenham 想着勾搭一下Lady Gordon 结果对方并没有这个想法 并明确地表示如果要一起旅行的话 要分房间睡 没什么钱耗的煤老板一听这: 告辞 并在当天的日记里写道: My high society plans fail....I shall now get out my scrape as well as I can.....Well, I have gained experience

5月4日她跟Mariana在Cheshire 但丝毫没有提起Anne的兴致和性致 她认为'the sex was tolerable' 还担心被Mariana的老公间接传播性病 因为做完后 ‘felt hot after it, it frightens me though I have washed twice....she is not, I fear, to be touched with impunity' 而且早在1821年的时候就这么被传染过一次

M一心想着等老公死了就可以跟Anne一起了 但是Anne却在5月7日写道：Mariana still thinks me altered and fine, and feels restrained, I am sure, and this has destroyed our chance of our being together - she would live and die where she is

当晚8:25分 身心俱疲的煤老板回到了Shibden有钱的好邻居Miss Walker

【6.2更】

1832年5月份Anne回到Shibden后就一直忙忙碌碌 因为之前在上流社会接触的那段时间 再回来就感觉哪里都vulgar vulgar vulgar 所以刚回家才一个月就又想着离开旅行

说几点剧里改编过的细节 但是不是很重要啦

一是车夫George的死 是回来之后的6月份死去Langton Hall的 死因跟剧里描述的一样 Anne也确实参与了验尸诚心不让妹妹吃饭

二是在自己的管家Briggs生病之前(可怜的Briggs在9月17日病逝) 她其实就有意向让Samuel Washington来继任了

三是她跟Ann Walker在1820年的相遇就是当时是因为发生了马车事故 我猜是把这段故事挪到了剧开始：Ann recollected encountering Miss Walker, her elder sister and their mother in the aftermath of a carriage accident that had occurred on Shibden land in 1820. The Walkers were offered a cup of tea and a lantern to light their way home, but not friendship.

四是Mariana在她回到Shibden后还是继续各种书信往来 M说她’unsettled life‘ was having a bad effect on her temperament and resulting in her'odd and particular' treatment of others 煤老板5月份的时候回应'I am as I am' 其实同时内心有在留意隔壁这个富有的女继承人Ann Walker 而不是完全没有考虑

最后是Walker一家作为暴发户’new money‘ 在多处都有房产 书里提到他们来自Lightcliffe 而Ann是住在其中的Lidgate 不是剧里提到的Crow Nest

她们之间的恋情始于1832年 但是早之前也见过几次 1820s煤老板的日记里就零星记录【judge】了这一家子人

在1822年6月18日提到Miss Walker:A stupid, vulgar girl indeed

随后8月19日的时候又说她姐姐Elizabeth 'deadly stupid'

【哎 这个女人】

1832年7月6日 Ann Walker 跟着亲戚Atkinson两口子去煤老板家串门 书里提到说 仔细品品当天的日记的话 就会发现那里煤老板有小小的撩拨了一下 : there is to be found a tiny hit of flirtation in a joke she makes with Miss Walker 'about travelling' together.

一周后煤老板回访 在Lightcliffe她跟Walker以及Walker的亲戚们参观了那里的三处房产

Ann Walker 比煤老板小12岁 她的焦虑和自卑 不好说是不是因为童年时候她爹的虐待

William Priestley在1822年的时候跟Anne提过Walker爹 'ill-treated his wife and daughters'; 几年后他老婆Mrs Priestley更详细地聊了一下 expanded on the nature of Miss Walker's mental illness 所以1828年8月28日Anne的日记里说起Miss Walker的insanity 同年11月6日Mrs Priestley又对煤老板表示对Miss Walker精神状况的担忧 she feared she would 'end in idiocy'Priestley夫妇

1830s 姐姐Elizabeth远嫁苏格兰 Ann一个小人住在大大的Lidgate 应该是非常无聊 日常交际也就盼着Catherine Rawson, Miss Parkhill 还有她的画画老师 Mr Brown来 除此之外她尽可能的用sewing, knitting and small philanthropic work来填补其他的时间

虽然Miss Walker跟煤老板性格完全不同 但是经历有点像 比如因为父母早逝 所以Walker也是跟她姑妈关系更亲近 再比如Ann能继承财产也是因为兄弟的死

煤老板那时候是真穷 1833年2月2日的时候她记录过算出一年的收入大概在830-840英镑之间 her own income was somewhere between £830 and £840 per annum 算是非常一般的乡绅了 但Ann手边的钱就是她的两倍多 'By contrast, Ann Walker had more than double that amount at her disposal.‘

因为Ann Walker自己有钱 家里人也都算着呢 比如剧里也提到她姐夫的妈希望她嫁给自己的一个败家亲戚Alexander Mackenzie

剧里Miss Walker提过家里联姻很厉害的 所以当时Walker, Rawson, Edwards and Priestley四家人就从经济到政治都把控了Halifax

而Ann 这样一个有着高收入的未婚女子at the heart of such a family, she held considerable power

这些煤老板都 一 清 二 楚 【加粗划重点】

就在Anne拜访Ann的同一天 她收到了Jeremiah Rawson的信 说想谈谈矿的事情 在跟她的煤矿经纪人James Holt 讨论了之后 做了点算数 得出来每英亩收£226.17.6

1832年7月19日周二 Jeremiah来访 开门见山问价格 整个逗留时间不超过25分钟The price, wrote Anne,'frightened him'

1832年8月10日煤老板又去拜访Ann 据称这次访问只是unremarkable 两个人就客客气气的喝喝茶聊聊邻里间的八卦 Ann确实也吐槽了Dr Kenny的试图亲近 但是an insight into Anne's inner thoughts make the story quite different 🤔🤔🤔🤔

Walker的友好让煤老板觉得 或许有那么种可能For Anne, there was romantic promise in the fact of their getting on so 'very well together'. The possibility of courting Miss Walker had entered her mind 'several times before of late'.

当晚她在日记里写道：shall I try and make up to her?Miss Walker去旅游啦

【6.3 更】

一周后煤老板又去Walker家撩妹 但是中途先去了Priestley家聊了会天【剧里看来是把顺序调换了】 后来告辞后在Ann家里呆了3个小时 this would be the longest amount of time the two women had ever spent together

聊天的时候 Anne设法折断了剧里提到Catherine送的ivory book knifeInitially ashamed of her clumsiness, Ann turned the situation quickly to her charming advantage. It would, she suggested 'be a good excuse for my giving her one someday from Paris, which she would value as much as the one destroyed'.

Miss Walker replied, encouragingly,

that she would value any gift of Anne's even more than the thing she had broken

我个人是非常喜欢这种小细节了 戳到我了😏

后来两个人友好地道别 Ann送了煤老板一本Penny Magazine【The Penny Magazine was an illustrated British magazine aimed at the working class, published every Saturday from 31 March 1832 to 31 October 1845.】虽然这天没有确定下一次相见的日子 但是煤老板在日记里写道(1832年8月17日):She has money and this might make up for rank. We get on very well so far and the thought, as I returned, amused and interested me

这里为什么感觉煤老板真的恋爱了 虽然提到了'她有钱 这可以弥补她的地位'

作为两百年前的人 煤老板对找个好头衔老婆的执着可以理解 19世纪 异性恋的传统组合是for the middle and upper-class, a ’good match‘ was a marriage that made financial sense, with love a secondary consideration 煤老板人再open-minded 在大环境影响下这种心理其实是根深蒂固的 之前追求Vere和试图融入上流阶层无果 让她觉得 恩 Walker虽然没有头衔 但是有钱 况且我们Lister的名号could be enough for them both

之后几天两个人没有见面 所以具体Anne的生活我就不提了 反正书里就写她一直忙忙碌碌 找父亲要钱翻修房子 跟佃农相处 惦记着出国玩 以及与Aunt Anne非常铁的关系

此处插播一件跟Mariana和Vere相关的事情

1832年7月24日Mariana去Shibden找煤老板 同一天她刚好也收到Vere的婚礼请帖 实际上Anne之后并没有去参加婚礼 只是写了信给Vere的亲戚说哇恭喜不去没空

这次M来估计是想化解两个人在5月份那次的不快 也想着旧情复燃to have stirred up old feelings 但是煤老板却觉得疲倦 在M走的前一天日记记录着'felt relieved to get rid of her'

8月5日M来信说抱歉背叛了两个人的关系选择了出嫁

8月20日M又来信抱怨跟老公Charles Lawton的关系 煤老板却觉得烦 'well,' she wrote on 20th August 1832, 'I trust I have done with her. I rarely think of her without irritation. '

啧啧啧

8月中下旬的时候 她终于决定好Chaumière的建造位置 并计划于9月底完工就是这个

Its secluded location and cosy interior were designed with intent: the Chaumière was an intimate site that was to become crucial in Anne's seduction of Ann Walker

真的是撩妹好套路了😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

书里还提到了煤老板严重的便秘还有背痛的问题 关于便秘Anne是一直在寻找解决办法并各种尝试 在1835年的日记里提到了蓖麻油 and 'bathing the bottom of the back with salt and water or vinegar and water'..............还说 digestive pills of aloe and mrtth before dinner

1832年9月初 Ann Walker要跟Catherine Rawson去Lake District呆三周 那时候Anne Lister感觉已经有相当的自信 to ask Miss Walker if she would be thinking of her while she was away 而Ann的回应 rather romantic question was encouraging'Yes, she would not forget'

两个人在Ann离开前一天打算在Halifax消磨一下午 而Anne在约会的前一天晚上就计划好了自己的outfit 她想着不仅给Miss Walker 也给未来的亲家们留个好印象 9月3日一早Ann就来Shibden找Anne 一直等到上午11:50两个人坐着Ann的马车去市里串门 An ambitious itinerary of social calls had been planned 一直到下午5:30分把煤老板送回了家

其实这么看下来 比较喜欢剧里的改编了 各种这么社交听上去就挺无聊的

Ann离开的两天后 煤老板在日记里第一次用特有的描述 记录了因为一边想着Miss Walker一边自慰高潮

整段都摘抄了：Two days after Ann Walker left for the Lake District, Anne 'incurred a cross' while thinking about her. It marked the first time she had used the phrase about her. Always recorded in crypt hand at the top of the day's diary entry, this was Anne's preferred way to describe an orgasm she had achieved by masturbation. It was frequently used in conjunction with the name of her current or would-be lover, and sometimes followed with the specification that she had been thinking of that woman 'merely as a mistress'

其实老司机Anne发明了很多来描述自己性生活的特殊字眼:

Grubbling meant using her hand to bring another woman to orgasm

A' kiss' was another word for orgasm

'Going to Italy' referred to making love or having full sex

啊突然想起了前面introduction里还提过:

On 7th June 1836, Anne invented a new euphemism to describe bringing a lover to orgasm :'bring[ing] monsieur again'.

Anne只想做一个快快乐乐的同性恋 但是在那个年代没办法出柜 找个性伴侣不容易也很危险 她的日记里记录了那么多女孩子 貌似只有两个跟她一样对自己的性取向有明确认知 并拒绝异性恋婚姻 通过Anne日记的描述来看两个应该都是butch lesbians

书里提到Ann Walker就算在深柜 啊不 深闺中的Lidgate 也应该听说过Anne Lister同性恋的传闻【但是她并不在乎 嘻嘻】 If Ann Walker had heard rumours, it did not impede her desire to pursue the friendship. 她还安排9月25日一回来就跟煤老板约早饭继续勾搭Miss Walker

【6.3晚上】

【其实有点想跟着剧一起完结这个的 但是要写作业 估计不行了】

【我收回之前说煤老板追求Ann Walker只图钱的观点 日记来看 还是有喜爱的】

Anne趁着Miss Walker不在的时候 就开始处理各种杂事 跟佃农的纠纷啦 煤啦 还有穷也要继续返修的勇气(借钱的信都写好了 但是没寄) 她那80岁的老父亲 基本已经就Anne你随便吧爱咋咋地我不管了(其实剧里也能看出这种小细节 经常就是一个'呵呵'的眼神 然后不说话)

顺便一提Anne不是又想着出国旅行了嘛 所以也在找贴身女仆 Mariana在9月9日的来信中给她推荐了法国女孩23岁的Eugenie 因为M知道Anne对异国风情的喜爱 Anne也确实很看重这一点 但是更多也在询问Eugenie的细节 比如一定要健康 一定要爱旅行之类 同时也开始思考Miss Walker是否能跟她一起旅行

1832年9月26日 Ann回来的第二天 两个人如约一起吃了早饭 聊了大概一个半小时 相处地非常愉快 'Very civil, our conversation quite confidential'

Anne非常感动Miss Walker给她带回来一件大理石镇纸作为礼物 但了解到Ann并不想去意大利(书里特地说了一句这里并没有性暗示哈哈哈哈 我也没往这上面想啊) 此处是想说明Ann不愿意国外旅行

后来煤老板就回去了Shibden 但刚到没10分钟就发现Ann的佣人James来找她拿书 to collect some books which Anne had forgotten to bring to Lidgate for Miss Walker 于是Anne草草地写了一张便条道歉 offering 'a thousand apologies'

其实两个人又再约了第二天吃早饭 也就是9月27日再见面 所以Ann是真的这么着急看书吗？It is tempting to speculate that it was a desire of Ann Walker's to establish further communication with Anne Lister before their next meeting that prompted her to send her servant to Shibden, more than any impatience to read her books.

明明是再多等一天也无妨的事情 Ann对煤老板的喜爱之情显露无疑

不管怎样 这也给了煤老板一个撩妹的机会 她让James带回去的便条里 operated within the romantic conventions of the day

她说 she had 'played truant' by staying longer than she had intended at Lidgate. The visit had given her 'so much to think of afterwards, that is long after I have actually left you'

It was the Georgian equivalent of texting your date afterwards, to tell them you've had a good time 😏

第二天9月27日两个人在早上7:30后吃早餐 之后两个人去另一个房间继续共度时光 突然来了两位不速之客 Stansfield Rawson和 Delia Rawson 俩Rawson当时的古怪态度也跟剧里一样 反正煤老板心想刚跟Ann分别了三周自己才不要这么早就走呢

四个人待了一会后Rawson们发现自己的战斗力比不过比不过就告辞了 Miss Walker之后说 was 'glad' of it

吃过午饭后煤老板建议去散步 说想带Ann看看刚修的路和新建的草屋 据当天的日记记载说两个人绝对在里面呆了几个小时 茅舍隐秘又浪漫 是绝佳的撩妹圣地 这应该也是煤老板在这里选址的目的

煤老板虽然自己觉得her match with Miss Walker did not represent a meeting of intellect, confidence or even physical energy 但是她觉得两个人对彼此是简单又纯粹的互相喜欢 会是非常有爱的一对

剧里第二集难免 或者至少是我觉得煤老板非常厚脸皮和真自信 第一次拜访后就得出'哇人家喜欢我'的结论 现在按照时间段读下来发现我完全误解了煤老板 虽然Anne一直在试探 但至少Ann这两个月间是有意无意间也给了很多鼓励和暗示 或者暴露了自己的喜欢【但是自己不知道那是什么的情感】

为了跟Ann的旅行做铺垫 煤老板想着得去讨好Walker的一系列亲戚们 所以9月29日的时候去拜访了Priestleys两口子 之后又去找了Miss Walker

到这时候两个人已经是非常暧昧了 但是很多对话却预示着暴风雨前的平静

比如Ann的缺乏自信 摇摆不定 以及第一反应是不想去Shibden居住 都预示了未来几个月这段感情的虐

书里也提到了Ann提议推迟旅行是因为Ainsworth夫妇的到访 煤老板就想着那刚好有时间照顾生病的Aunt Anne ; Ann对去Shibden定居的愿景表示不太情愿 煤老板私底下承认说确实为难她毕竟还太早 但是was happpy to have planted the thought in Miss Walker's mind

那时候 Anne并没有对Miss Walker出柜 拜访的时候基本也就聊聊家常 聊聊旅行 但是Anne对Walker也了解的不多 她并不知道Ann之前有没有过什么恋情 但是assumed that Ann was sexually inexperienced 😂 which reinforced her interest that she must tread sensitively and carefully

因为煤老板这天在Walker家逗留到太晚 所以9月29日的日记里提到说Aunt Anne和妹妹Marian对她安全的担忧 因为那时候治安并不好 加上从Lightcliffe到Shibden那条路是又黑又暗

哎 天天跟妹妹吵架 吵归吵 也没耽误跟姑妈分享与Miss Walker惬意相处的好心情

Anne聊了下一起住的事情啊 根剧里的描述一样 Ann的回答很直率 基本上就是觉得虽然她不认为自己会结婚 但是不会抛弃这种可能性 所以需要一些时间来想一下【我个人觉得很真诚 也非常实际】

当天的日记里Anne表露了自己的失望 that was disappointing that Miss Walker had not yet mentally erased the possibility of a relationship with a man 但另一方面 不得不说也是给了人希望

Anne viewed her own relationships firmly within a heterosexual framework. 在主流异性恋社会的影响下 Anne想着跟相伴一生的爱人在上帝面前宣誓 并交换戒指也很正常【一直到2019年还是没变的套路】

当天下午她们的关系又有了新的进展：I had my arm on the back of the sofa. 煤老板对Miss Walker前后的矛盾举动也越加confused 她的直觉一方面告诉她要 be cautious and mind what I say 另一方面觉得a little spice of matrimony应该也是不错的

虽然今天有点小波折 但还是两人关系进展标志性的一天

接上文的当天 也就是10月4日 Miss Walker说收到一封匿名信 日记里并没有提信里的内容 所以作者就推测可能是Ann家族写的 用来警告煤老板

煤老板几年来一直都收到一些信来嘲讽她穿着打扮 也暗指她 '不正常的'性取向 Anne早就习惯了 但是Ann没有 一有风吹草动她就很紧张

5日的是时候两人又约

Miss Walker had given Anne her first 'mumbling kisses'

Anne是相信Miss Walker全心全意爱着她的 但是对要等6个月这件事 心里没什么底 而且她越发觉得Miss Walker没有外表看上去那样单纯

之后Miss Walker带Anne去了她房间 这里Anne内心其实表现出了少有的insecurity......I kissed her and she pushed herself to me. I rather felt and might have done as much as I pleased. She is man-keen enough. 10月6日的时候她又去跟Mrs Priestley联络感情 后来人家随口提了一句你最近跟Miss Walker走挺近哈 煤老板听完后有点虚 一边觉得周围的人都在盯着她们的一举一动 一边又赶紧说不不不不 我们是好朋友我又没天天跟她在一起 比如周二或周三(10月2日跟3日)就没！我今天也不打算找她(也确实没去找)

10月7日的时候煤老板终于去了一次教堂 因为对她来说祷文在家读读就行啦 花几个小时没有意义 加上她经常在布道的时候睡着 【哈哈哈哈哈 好可爱】

不过这天Mrs Priestley发现忠实信徒Miss Walker竟然意外缺了席

她跟煤老板一说 两个人之后就去Ann家看了一眼 发现Ann没什么事儿 Mrs Priestley呆了一会就走了 留下两个人继续聊天顺便做一些羞羞的事情

之前Anne晚归搞得家人很担心 于是John就被派去接Anne 就发生了跟剧里一样的事情 日记记载当晚Mrs Priestley肯定也意识到了什么煤老板这里确定想打人的

那时候Eleanor Butler 和 Sarah Ponsonby已经同居42年了 Miss Ponsonby打扮得略butch 给Anne 留下了深刻的印象 但是了解到她俩从爱尔兰跑到这里也是为了逃家里的逼婚或逼出家后 她觉得自己非常幸运 出柜成功家人支持 有点收入 加上够聪明 能让她过上她想要的生活 但是她最受不了就是要掩饰自己

这次愉快的拜访加上两个人独特的生活方式 had a profound effect on Anne's romantic imagination 上面的链接也提到了 Anne暗搓搓地猜两个人肯定是有性生活的

让我们回到10月8日 也就是周一 也就是John误跑去Priestley家接Anne的第二天

煤老板睡了一觉后 shook off了前一晚的担忧 觉得Mrs Priestley would 'think something in the wind' 就决定今天再去找Miss Walker 书里提到了她跟Mrs Rawson非常好的关系 也是位很有趣的老太太呢

搞定了一些social calls后 她去了Lidgate 本来只打算呆a few minutes 因为煤老板来大姨妈了(or 'cousin' as she called it) The preparation, washing and burning of bloodied rags was a time-consuming inconvenience 正好可以在接下来几天as an excuse to put some space between Ann and Anne

不过Miss Walker怎么会这么轻易的放她走呢 煤老板一直在那里呆到了晚上六点多 期间两人又聊天 煤老板又试探 后来两个人又把帘子放下 开始make out

这是非常有纪念意义的一天 因为Anne 'touch (first time) the hair and skin of queer (a.k.a vagina)'

我看到上面的时候以为煤老板终于睡到了Miss Walker了呢

10月13日的时候 妹妹Marian回来的当天 煤老板又去劝说Miss Walker跟她去看医生 终于Ann答应了

【14日的时候煤老板写信给Mariana说要带个朋友找她弟弟看病 但是只字不提她跟Miss Walker的关系】

虽然Miss Walker一直对将来的同居计划保持沉默 但是肉体关系是continued to develop

1832年10月15日两个人又干柴烈火 Anne took this as a sign that Miss Walker was preparing to accept her proposal:.....She whispered to me in bed how gentle and kind I was to her, and faintly said she loved me

10月19日Ann来大姨妈了 所以'I was most tender over her' 当天呆到非常晚才回去 到了Shibden的时候都晚上11:20了 她姑妈自然非常生气 不过她就过去哄姑妈 然后聊了下跟Miss Walker的进展 说一切都非常顺利

但事实并非如此 其实她当晚回家的时候内心已经felt distinctly 'annoyed' at their stalmate

Miss Walker越发搪塞 煤老板就越觉得看不到希望 所以她决定had best care little about her

不过病 该看的还是得看 10月22日 两个人到达了YorkAinsworth你给我走

在约克的时候 Anne也趁机各种跟老朋友聚 其中也包括Mariana的妹妹（或者姐姐） Harriet Milne

煤老板曾跟Harriet有过一段 10月23日的日记说跟她见面 Harriet说很看好她跟Miss Walker的事情 but we made 'foot love' under the table

Belcombe医生的诊断非常简洁 病因是Miss Walker有钱有闲 Miss Walker had too much money and too little to do, and had managed to think herself into being ill 其实这是因为当时医学水平限制 只能把这类精神疾病认为是女性‘特有的’歇斯底里

日记并没有记载Miss Walker 对诊断结果的看法 但是显然病情并没有好转 10月24日的日记说 ‘no grubbling last night - she was sore’ {密语温习: Grubbling meant using her hand to bring another woman to orgasm} 但是10月25日回Halifax的路上 在利兹经停的时候 a little 'grubbling' in the carriage 书里还提到路上两个人对未来的规划上还越聊越兴奋 至此Anne认为‘seemed quite agreed’ 她认为虽然Miss Walker还没有答应她 但是越来越迷恋她了

10月26日的时候两人拜访Ann的姑姑 之后的情形跟剧是一样的

Miss Walker虽然说：这样我们可以在1月份出国旅行了 但是Anne察觉到Miss Walker was in fact much affected

当天还在日记里这般乌鸦嘴:It instantly struck me. She would in due time succeed her friend and be Mrs Ainsworth.

不过两个人性生活还是很愉快的

Tib来信 说provided an opportunity for Anne to air her positivity about the affair 煤老板没有明提对Tib还有没有感情 但是说了the 'really nice girl' Ann was turning out to be

煤老板越发对这段感情有信心 她甚至考虑如果Ann答应她的话 她可以搬去Lidgate

10月31日 日记里记载道终于成功地劝Ann把等待期限从4月3日提前至1月1日了 并越发认为Miss Walker会答应嫁给她

但是11月1日 Thomas Ainsworth早上的来信让Miss Walker开始动摇 也让煤老板在日记里的猜想成了真She begged me to stay till she had read her letter from Mr Ainsworth ...Ainsworth hopes Miss W will not forsake him as a friend and begs her to write to him

这位贱男的意图很明显: “我妻子死了 我想跟你搞事情 请来信暗示我行动”

不过对未来还是抱有期待的煤老板 想着要保护Miss Walker的资产权益 就趁着在Halifax的时候找她的律师起草了一份针对Miss Walker一个佃农的赔偿协议 因为他偷了干草

回去Shibden后煤老板就写了一封长长饱含各种建议的信给Miss Walker 她似乎是想让Ann不要老想着final desicion 不妨channelling nervousness into practical management of her state 再是想证明自己是个非常合格的partner + protector

Ann当晚的回信还是模棱两可 'I have been better today because I have been employing myself for you, but I am still very nervous'

由此煤老板就在日记里问自己 Miss Walker的决定到底会是什么

11月4日她收到Lady Stuart的来信说Donald的父亲去世了 也就是Vere的公公 这一下子就让Lister的思绪回到了凄凄惨惨的1832年 去年的这个时候 她正在Hastings争取Vere的芳心 结果以失败告终 今年似乎又重蹈了去年的老路

11月5日的时候 也就是周一 煤老板如剧里一样 收到了'一个无法决定所以把锅推给对方'的水果篮子

1832年就这样结束了

【我晚了两天更的原因是。。。。。最近沉迷明日方舟。。。。。太可怕了一刷就是一整天。。。。。辣鸡游戏毁我人生！！！！所以我删了】

果篮里Miss Walker的信 开头表达了自己的纠结 又说这段时间身体又不好 无法做出公平的判断 所以就让上帝决定 同样的也是让煤老板或她姑姑从钱包里抓阄

看完信后煤老板整个人都不好了" in agitation, little expecting to find it a mere evasion"

几分钟后她抓着钱包就冲去Lidgate要个解释 到了后发现Ann正在等她 ‘We kissed and she was affectionate as usual’

煤老板说没想到会是以这种方式被告知结果 然后表明了自己的立场 两人现在关系这样亲密 彼此已经建立深厚的感情纽带 自己是不可能回到从前了 加上她内心觉得这早已超越了普通友谊 and she was losing patience 所以煤老板认为 只要Ann还是犹豫不决 一起出国旅行的事情就取消

Miss Walker本来还说11月2日赠的一缕阴毛让煤老板误解了 后来意识到会失去她 Ann立马就不犹豫了 Miss Walker's hesitation all but vanished

因此Anne在日记里冷冷地写道：好了她现在倒是乐意跟我一起旅行了

回Shibden的路上煤老板对Miss Walker不明朗的态度非常纠结 然后又开始给自己进行思想建设 'Well, it is an arrow and perhaps a lucky escape. Thank God for all his mercies'

当晚在日记里说打算第二天重新制定明年1月的旅行计划 leaving Miss Walker and her indecision behind

11月6日 Anne决定不去想这件事 转移注意力到Shibden的生意上 但是她发现自己没法不去找Miss Walker 所以身体很诚实的Anne当天忍不住去了一趟Lidgate 虽然Miss Walker很开心她来 但是气氛却不算融洽 'I have kissed her but in a common way' 然后就没有然后了I left her with no pleasant feeling, saying to myself damn her....I do not think her answer will be yes, and the more easily reconciled I am the better. Shall I dislike her by and by? At least I shall be more at liberty without her.

11月7日Miss Walker又收到了贱男的信 里头恶心吧唧的话【这个形容词是我加的 可能曲解了但是我不管】证实了煤老板的猜测：贱男是来求爱的

Miss Walker一直哭 最后坦白了她跟Ainsworth的不当关系...she felt bound to him by some indiscretion. He had taught her to kiss

It was unclear exactly how intimate Miss Walker had been with Mr Ainsworth 尽管她说 ’they had never gone as far as she and I [Anne] had done‘ 但她内心却觉得自己犯下了最恶劣的通奸行为 并为此深受折磨 而且从道德上出发觉得自己有义务要嫁给他

煤老板气得不行 一边谴责贱男一边为Ann说好话 说是他占了你便宜 你并没有什么该死的义务呀

煤老板的话卸去了Ann心中的一块大石 然后她就答应了Anne 'Amazingly, it was at this moment that she finally accepted Anne Lister's proposal'She asked if I would take her and gave me her word....hoped I should find her faithful and constant to me. Thus in a moment that I thought not of was I accepted and the matter settled

不过煤老板 近几个月来一直在纠结Ann’s virginity以及who taught her kiss....Privately, Anne Lister was circumspect. She took Miss Walker's admission of her connection with Mr Ainsworth as proof that she had beed deceiving her about her level of sexual experience.

这段时期其实很关键我还是多写一点吧

因为Ann是一个非常虔诚的人 deeply God-fearing, and the periods of depression that had marked her life to date had been characterised by bouts of religious mania 她跟Reverend Ainsworth的过往让她内心烙上了深深的罪恶感和羞耻感 现在那段不堪的记忆突然抖出来 这简直就是催化剂 逼她开始面对她跟煤老板的这种【在那个年代啦】越轨行为

煤老板就比较不一样 had spent years combing the bible for passages that helped her to understand her lesbianism as God-give quality

第二天11月8日 Miss Walker承认说Ainsworth曾经强迫她和他发生性关系 煤老板直接破口大骂这个无耻下流的混蛋 Miss Walker还说她戴的红宝石戒指就是他送的【????哈??? 】 煤老板直接给摘下来了说 she would see nor hear of it no more

11月9日她去Lidgate发现Ann毫无生气的瘫在床上 哎当然是安慰女朋友啦 Though she 'talked and reasoned her into being all appearance better', Anne noted that there was 'no foot or queer washing' in Anne's ablutions(这里是不是应该是Ann啊 应该是Ann的心病导致她意志减退 然后影响到个人卫生了), that her personal hygiene was beginning to suffer. It was in contrast to Anne's own fastidious cleanliness

Miss Parkhill也来了

陪她读圣经 各种安抚也没用 Ann还是继续消极地瘫在沙发上 甚至开始反悔对Anne的承诺 求她先不要买戒指 'she chould not wear it in mourning'

因为Miss Parkhill在 煤老板得注意自己的行为 如果她起了疑心 这可能会加重Miss Walker的焦虑

Ann又开始踌躇不前 又对煤老板说我可能不会跟你一起旅行了你看我现在身体这么弱

当天日记里也记载Ann的退却 'She said.... she should be a deal of trouble to me if I had her' 虽然煤老板内心有犹豫想着要么就拜拜吧 但是她还是坚持了下去 说会做任何事只为让Ann的健康好起来 并提议说再去找Belcombe医生

不过渐渐地 Anne对Miss Walker的'moody melancholy pother'越发觉得心累

11月23日 决定归还Miss Walker的钱包 'and 'yes' and be off'

Ainsworth越来越多的来信更加重了Miss Walker的不安 这货竟然还【敢】寄来戒指说是为了纪念他逝去的妻子 随着Ann的情绪变差 煤老板由此开始制定1月份的独自旅行计划

两个人肉体上依然还是很有亲密的 但煤老板又开始觉得或许得有个男人才能满足Ann 她作为一个女人 she would 'never satisfy her' 私底下她又开始问Miss Walker跟Ainsworth的历史 Anne convinced herself that he had' deflowered her and enjoyed her' (11月25日)

当天下午她从Lidgate回去的时候被一个陌生人威胁了 还好并没有打架

接下来两天就又是煤跟Mariana的事情【这两者总是成批出现】

M来信又是抱怨 觉得她老公Charles真是老不死 虽然她依旧是想等老公去世然后跟Anne同居

不过现在在Anne看来 她跟M的这段关系似乎已经结束了 11月27日日记里写道 'M's thought of ever being with me is quite gone by'

11月29日周四 煤老板收到了Miss Walker的邀请 请她周六去Lidgate 这里煤老板应该是回了张便条吧 书里没有提 但这个便条是第二天Miss Walker的发病原因

11月30日James紧急通知说Miss Walker生病了 脱不开身的煤老板先是让James传了一张安抚信 快速地交代了一下事宜后就赶去了Lidgate 虽然在场Sunderland医生是看病的那个 但是作出诊断的是Anne 她认为Miss Walker发烧是因为Belcombe医生的处方

Ann又发作是因为她以为她永远地失去了煤老板 昨天她焦虑了一整天 因为煤老板的便条让她觉得一切都结束了 然后她无法承受 煤老板一脸懵逼 'Could not think what she meant. It was that I had concluded with 'affectionately yours' leaving out 'faithfully'?'【有日记的小伙伴可以看一眼29号的日记里有没有提呀】

Miss Walker还顺便打了Miss Parkhill的小报告 说她趁着煤老板不在说坏话【在煤老板赶去Lidgate之前Parkhill就气鼓鼓地离开了 肯定是因为无法改变Ann的心意 恩肯定是这样】

If Anne Lister's attitude seems hubristic, nobody else seemed able to give Ann a level of support approaching that which she was offering 煤老板是真的非常关心Ann的健康状况 想着让Ann多走动走动 不要老在客厅里焦虑自己的病

由于Miss Walker的健康问题所以目前无法做出决定 Anne Lister reinstated 1st January 1833 as her decision deadline 同时为了争取更多的时间 Ann说要写信问问远嫁苏格兰的姐姐Elizabeth的意见

当晚回去Ann写信跟M倾诉自己的蓝色忧郁 顺便提了两句为了之后的旅行自己需要一位男仆来拎包 但是还是没有聊她跟Miss Walker的事情

1832年快结束了 Miss Walker的心疾越发严重 连门都不想出了 就算Elizabeth的回信建议她跟煤老板旅行 她还是无动于衷

12月7日 Vere从罗马来信 各种夸自己的丈夫'affectionate nature' 因为他父亲的死所以Donald Cameron继承了twentry-third Chief of Lochiel 【我去维基查了一下 太惨了 有第22任的页面 有第24/25/26任的页面 就是没有他的】

煤老板回信里给她安利了旅行的书还有一些攻略 并真心祝他们幸福【恭喜释怀】

之后几天就是跟剧里一样Mariana给她推荐了个男仆 跟Rawson们谈判加条件【如果漏水要收500罚金之类】 以及其他

By the end of 1832 she was resigned to the fact that her situation with Miss Walker was now one of complete hopelessness. 既然Ann无法做出承诺 那么就这么结束吧

1832年12月31日Miss Walker fretted and cried and sighed and said she should not live long. I proposed her returning her notes, and having mine.

在日记回顾了这一年不太顺利的感情经历后她写道:I have never stood so alone and yet am far happier that I was twelve months ago - in fact, happier than I have been for long, I am used and reconciled to my loneliness.

Miss Walker去了苏格兰 煤老板42岁啦

The year 1833 began badly.

1月1日她非常喜欢的辕马 因为生病所以被痛痛快快地:此处其实是Mr Pickles解决的

虽然与Ann的关系结束了 但是这位女孩子是不会就这么从煤老板的生活中消失的This girl, without really having my esteem or affection, somehow or other, unhinges me whenever I see her. (31st December 1832)

Seeing her always unhinges me. I was low and in tears at dinner and could not get her out of my head and why? For if I had her what could I do with her? (1st January 1833)

毕竟煤老板还是很担心Ann的精神状况 也在一直照顾她

Miss Walker的情况是更加糟糕了 因为焦虑经常失眠 好不容易睡着了又会突然夜惊 甚至还有了强迫症和广场恐怖症 Symptoms of obsessive compulsion and agoraphobia accompanied her bouts of mania.

煤老板发现自己想保护Ann 但是又心累那些melodrama

年初的这几周 Anne一直想各种办法来减轻Miss Walker的痛苦 让Ann在床边放一碗粥 'kept hot up, to be taking on awakening in the night' 以及取下钟锤 这样前半夜就不会吵到她了

为了照顾Miss Walker 那时候Anne依旧经常在Lidgate过夜Talked and reasoned calmly, then turned, and pretended to sleep. She refused all affection, and I did not press it. She scarcely, I think, closed her eyes until after 3, when I bade her say the Lord's prayer incessantly until I think she dropped off into a doze for a little.....(11th January 1833)

煤老板觉得自己显然是对Miss Walker最好也最有影响力的人了 她从未质疑过自己想保护Ann的心 但是照顾她的情绪压力也越来越重 所以1月10日 Anne决定写信给Walker的家人们 'I must write to her sister, or get rid of all of this in some way'

Catherine Rawson 被遣去Lidgate照顾Miss Walker 然后完全被她表亲的状态吓到了

Reverend Ainsworth还是一直有来信 煤老板直接寄过去一封赤裸裸的威胁信 基本就是你别来骚扰Ann了 要不然就等着你们的事情被曝光吧

乐色男被吓坏啦 说我再也不了 并希望Miss Walker不要揭发他 要不然的话她的形象也会受影响

【这件事总算过去了】

1月11日她收到了George Sutherland的信 信里写道因为Miss Walker早之前写过信给他 那封信的口气让他略担心Walker的情况 感觉比他们想象中的要严重许多 所以希望Anne可以告知一下真实的情况

煤老板立马就回信建议他以生意为由可以过来接Miss Walker过去 夫人就不必来了毕竟刚刚产下一娃 加上还要照顾其他孩子 同时问是否可以写信咨询Belcombe医生

Sutherland南下的事情在进展中 煤老板抽了点时间回去Shibden处理一些事情 比如其中就是仿个桥create a miniature replica of the Simplon Pass 之前她去瑞士的阿尔卑斯山时很喜欢这张图片75k 你们知道我传了多久吗

1月22日日记说觉得最好两人之间不要通信 有什么事情可以问Ann的姐姐 加上自己要出国旅行 并不能确定信能到达到哪里 她连开头跟署名都谨慎地想好了 ‘must begin with My Dear Miss Walker, and end with, Very Truly Yours.’

Ann不想去苏格兰啊 绝望地恳求能否跟煤老板一起在欧洲旅行 煤老板非常小心翼翼地说时机已经过去了 但是在接下来的一年里 如果Ann觉得没有我就不行 then she must send for me back again 这因此能给Miss Walker一点小小的希望 让她觉得 all is not, or needs not be, quite at an end between us

其实私底下 Anne觉得Miss Walker能康复的概率不大 并且在Ann同意去苏格兰后她觉得如释重负

有趣的是 Miss Walker的病反而使得煤老板跟Catherine Rawson成了朋友 之前因为各种流言蜚语Catherine还曾认为煤老板是'the worst dangerous friend and the worst enemy' 现在亲眼见到煤老板对Ann的体贴照顾 觉得自己错了并道了歉

友谊的小细节之一: Anne被Catherine借给她的一本书<Consolations in travel, or, The last days of a philosopher>迷住了 她也送给Catherine一个定制的印章作为礼物

因为信任Anne所以Catherine也跟着劝Miss Walker去苏格兰 以及被告诫不要告诉她们家族的任何人关于Miss Walker真实的病情

1月31日 Ann又恳求煤老板去Lidgate过夜 由于当天雪下得很大 考虑到安全问题姑姑Anne坚决反对煤老板出门 从下午4点一直到晚上11点大雪才停 那时候煤老板也根本没办法过去 Ann Walker's distress at the prospect of a night without Anne was stiflingPoor soul, she is quite beside herself and I cannot stand all this long

离别的前一天晚上被详细地记录在日记里 摘几句:Grubbled her last night, she on the amoroso, and wanted to be near to me - that is , have my drawers off. But I thought it better not. She would sleep in my arms, and snored so shockingly I could scarce bear it. Gooded myself with the thought of its being the last night.

2月18日离别那天上午 Ann跟Captain Sutherland去了Cliff Hill一一告别 就只剩Anne跟Sutherland老太独处 老太聊起来想让有钱的Ann嫁给自己败家外甥 如剧里一样煤老板直接怼了回去 这其实也引起了Anne的同情心 可怜Miss Walker无依无靠又是有钱适龄 she was indeed the valuable commodity who might be used to further the financial interest of her kin

对Anne来说Miss Walker的钱确实是很有用的资源 但是might only be tapped after a mutual and meaningful romantic pledge 而且同样重要的是她自己也会为partnership贡献一点小小的收入

趁着大家准备行李的时候 煤老板给Elizabeth写了张便条 说希望通过她了解Ann的情况 不想困扰Miss Walker所以将不会跟她直接通信 Anne's resolve not to communicate directly with Miss Walker during her recovery in Scotland was a deliberate attempt to open an emotional space between them

She enjoyed the opportunity to re-establish her routine of home improvements and reading

虽说尽量减了一些预算 但还是凑得很艰难 'To pay everything I shall want eleven hundred pounds and cannot make up more than seven'

她向Rawson的银行申请了£2000的信用证 结果却被Christopher Rawson拿来欺负Marian说她姐姐把Shibden的地契押在了银行来贷款

4月22日她找Christopher Rawson来Shibden对峙 维护妹妹这一行为让这姐妹俩短暂的家庭和睦了一会会 然后6月2日又吵起来了🤷🏻♀️ they fell back into theri usual arguments

3月2日 煤老板首次收到关于Miss Walker的消息 Captain Sutherland说Ann现在好多了不需要任何medical advice 只需要新鲜空气和锻炼 旅途过程中也没有出现任何问题

Ann Walker appeared keener to bridge the geographical and emotional distance between them

3月13日Anne收到了一份巨大的礼物 她本以为是她在苏格兰的朋友寄给她的 打开一看是一张圆形红木桌 上面有一份给姑姑Anne的便条 时间地点为了1833年2月25日爱丁堡 内容大致是Miss Walker希望煤老板能收下这份礼物 My aunt thinks Miss Walker means not to let me escape her.

3月14日下午 煤老板跋涉积雪去拜访Walker的姑母 当晚就打破了不通信的规定 给Miss Walker起草了一份非常high-flown的信 ’feeling may be quick without being transient and that which has lasted a dozen years, is neither the empty bubble of a moment, nor the vain imagining of an idle dream.‘

第二天煤老板转头一想 感觉不应该给Ann带去虚假的希望 加上她的姐姐和姐夫可能会经手她的信件往来 所以就把内容改了下

就此两人有了些联系 从Ann来信的口吻煤老板判断Miss Walker的情况时好时坏

3月26日Vere的来信各种聊她在意大利的旅行经历 【末了顺便在煤老板心中开了一枪】 :'......and I suppose at Paris by the 15th April. Do you recollect anything of consequence on that day?'

煤老板翻了去年的日记 恩 1832年4月15日 Captain Cameron向Vere求了婚

哦 呵呵。然后拖了将近一个月(4月21日)煤老板才回复Vere 基本意思是'是的呢 我记得呢 我怎么可能忘呢' 然后祝福

1833年4月3日煤老板42岁生日 她依旧对未来很乐观 'I am more single than ever, un-companioned and alone. Yet still, I feel happier than this time last year.'

然后她花了12个小时拍打整理书 然后摆放在她在新弄好的图书馆过道的书架上

【6.25 第一季完结撒花】

旅行达人煤老板第一次出远门是在1806年8月25日15岁的时候 她激动地在日记里写道: 'Rode with Mr Mitchelll to Bacup - the first time I was out of Yourkhire'

成年后的Anne越发喜欢旅行 而且目的地越新奇越好 it did not satisfy her to leave England for a week or two, throughout her adult life she spent months at a time away from home.

在那个靠四轮马车和蒸汽机的年代(其实也就是第一次工业革命末期) 长途跋涉出国旅行并不是一件容易的事情 她出发前就已经把每段的停留点规划好了: York, Leamington, London 然后南海岸渡海begain her travels through the continent 但是终点还没有想好 (7月17日的时候定为哥本哈根)

1833年6月16日 Anne离开了Shibden. Her farewell to Aunt Anne and Marian was brisk

经过近5个小时的车程煤老板到达York 却发现新招的男仆Thomas跟女仆Eugenie都不在 他俩本来应该如之前安排的在Black Swan聚首 结果换来煤老板生气地等这迟到的两人 第一印象就这么崩了 其实之后的行程煤老板对这位女仆的意见非常多

6月17日和18日煤老板陆续拜访了几位老朋友 其中包括Mariana的姐姐/妹妹 — Harriet Milne(撩过✔️) 不惑之年的Anne决定低调一点 点到为止绝不过火 'latterly rather flirting but not much'

见Harriet的那天 也就是6月17日 她俩还去精神病院看望了煤老板的初恋Eliza Raine

1805年14岁的Anne跟Eliza在约克的Manor School相遇并相恋 后来两人分了手 Eliza也因为精神问题去了精神病院 不过煤老板一直都跟她保持联系直到她去世 至1833年 Eliza已经在精神病院呆了快20年

6月19日煤老板抵达Leamington去找Mariana 尽管Anne之前在日记里各种提Mariana meant very little to her 但是她之前故意去撩Harriet是很明显地想让Mariana吃醋【煤老板你是42还是4岁】Mariana's lack-lustre reaction让煤老板很震惊也很沮丧'I was really affected. In tears'

6月28日煤老板发现自己和Shibden只是Mariana的plan B 因为William Lawton(her newphew-in-law)之死让她失去了未来的保障 本来她老公Charles死了之后 William会继承Lawton Hall 她也知道Charles是不会给她留半毛钱的 所以本可以依靠William 现在William却因意外先走一步

'She owned the other day that if William had not died she would not have tried to get me back' 这使得两个人的关系更加僵化了 性生活也非常索然无味

7月3日两人到达伦敦【本来还想看书里有没有说温度计的事情 好气 没有】煤老板天天跑去跟她的上流圈子交际 完完全全地忽略Mariana了 M整天就非常无聊 甚至有一次她还跟踪煤老板 看她去了哪里

7月10日Charles Lawton也到了伦敦 the situation had deteriorated further 而且似乎在Anne跟Miss Walker献殷勤的时候 Mariana had been playing up to the pointed charms of Cheshire man, a Mr Willoughby Crewe 煤老板听到Lawton夫妇很大声地吵架 最终她下定决心不管Mariana了 继续独自旅行

不过7月9日跟10日两天 她也是忙着在伦敦街头搜罗给Vere迟到的结婚礼物 决定送coffee pot之后还在日记里各种纠结价格【穷字当头】

7月16日走访Vere 去看她新出生的女儿 日记里感觉气氛很融洽'Laughed and told V, if she liked the coffee pot and I would have the credit of the choice, if not, all the blame should be on Lady S'

因为答应了她的朋友Madame de Bourke送她的外甥女回丹麦 由此煤老板敲定了北上的计划 7月18日煤老板从伦敦启程去巴黎 与那个外甥女Sophie Ferall会和 并把她送去她在哥本哈根的姐姐Countess Emily Blucher

之前说到煤老板对女仆Eugenie的第一印象就很不好 7月28日的日记里更是深刻地吐槽了一番 吐槽说她一点作为女仆的基本礼节都没有'Walks before me, begins the conversation, and tonight took her place almost in front of me from a gent who offed it, and kept it to the exclusion of a young lady, a friend of the gent's!!!' 不过Eugenie也是有优点的 比如8月1日的时候 她跟Anne做了一份米饭布丁尝试和解 煤老板就如此被收买了 'we can possible keep up going on as well as we do now, I shall think of my servants as treasures' 这时候 煤老板一行人已经在巴黎了 书里提到了一下她花钱如粪土的细节 以及到处买礼物送给学术圈的朋友们

8月2日 她跟Sophie Ferrall碰头 日记里描写对小姑娘的第一印象非常好【很难得煤老板会对人印象好】 'pretty looking', 'nice, sensible girl'

不过启程去哥本哈根之前 煤老板先给小姑娘打了预防针说 她们不会直接去丹麦not be going direct to Copenhagen 因为煤老板还想顺路去其他地方转转 Sophie没有说什么 很可能是当时没有完全理解'not going direct'是什么意思

8月8日 煤老板收到了Elizabeth Sutherland寄来的满满3页的信 说Ann身体好点了 但是精神状态还是很差 由于煤老板对Ann的影响无人可及' that there is no individual living by whom she(Ann Walker) would be so much influenced' 所以想咨询她的建议

Ann Walker had, she said, been waiting anxiously to hear from her. Despite the ocean's distance between them. she maintained a feeling of moral duty towards Miss Walker's wellbeing 因此第二天 煤老板回复了一封诚意满满的信 完了又附了个addendum to the letter which demonstrates an impulse to include something more heart-felt

整个旅行中Anne一直都在想着Ann Walker 精神上和身体上都想 she remained a sexual preoccupation too, the coded words 'incurred a cross thinking of Miss Walker' appearing at regular intervals in her diary over the coming months

1833年8月18日 一行人离开了巴黎 放一段感觉好符合煤老板性格的旅行描写 Anne's carriage veered up hills, down tracks, over narrow bridges into the cobbled streets of the villages of rural France and Germany 每天结束的时候 疲惫不堪的众人会在能找到的随便什么旅馆过夜 煤老板又开始吐槽 over-priced and under-par 有洁癖的Anne不想睡在脏兮兮的床单上 就经常穿着大衣睡觉 她还发现Sophie小姑娘有时候太累以至于slept 'without nightcap and in her day shift'(25th August 1833)

累归累 煤老板还是玩得很开心 这8、9月的日记里都是路上见闻和风土人情描写 但是一心想回丹麦的Sophie开始有点不耐烦了Miss F so little thinking of my pleasure. I had said this morning, sorry for the delay but really I might have been a month longer but for her anxiety to get to Hamburg...Her German has served me little (7th September 1833)

煤老板真是个熊孩子

看剧的时候 我总觉得两个人应该会搞点什么 没想到还真的搞了点什么 不过两个人也就是互相挑逗一下打发时间而已 this diversion seemed no more than a game to Anne

'She sits on my knee tonight and has kissed me these three nights but I do it all very properly' 似乎Sophie小姑娘跟Miss Walker有点像 两个人都有点 low self-esteem

9月11日日记写道:’ She sat on my knee this evening. I tell her she is not ugly and she is well enough inclined to flirt with me but I am very prudent‘

书里顺便提到了Sophie之后的故事 拒绝了那位有钱但比她大20岁的俄罗斯老头后 她在1841年的时候嫁给了意大利著名革命家Federico Confalonieri 虽然两个人的婚姻只持续了5年Federico就去世了 从书信中能看出两个人互相爱慕 各种夸来夸去 Sophie还真做到了

而且Sophie也由Federico接触到了一个全新的社会圈子 比如Rossini, Verdi, Liszt, Victor Hugo, Balzac和Alexis de Tocqueville后来都成了她的圈内好友

基本上是熊孩子煤老板想到处玩 Sophie小姑娘只想回家 两个人对对方也开始不耐烦 煤老板还在9月13日的日记里吐槽人家的小狗打呼 'Should have been comfortable enough without Miss Ferrall and her snoring, disagreeable little dog'

所以在9月17日当一行人终于坐上了Travemünde的轮船前往最终目的地时 双方都感觉到了解脱 Anne日记里说我再也不要旅行同伴了 末了还加了一句说Sophie was 'the most disagreeable girl I ever saw'

之后在哥本哈根的两个月Anne过得很开心 学学德语啦 读读书 写写游记 定期散散步 当然还有繁忙的社交活动 她周围的人心智也都非常高 intellectually stimulating 【让你无处吐槽！】

提几个小插曲 其实主要是想记录一下时间线

在第一波到哥本哈根的信件中没有Elizabeth从苏格拉的回信 煤老板略惊讶'perhaps she did not quite like my last' (9月19日)

Mariana的来信中说我听说吧哥本哈根是'the court of dullness' 大家都说你肯定不会喜欢丹麦的 煤老板直接怼回去she had not had any 'time to find it so' (9月21日) 她还详细告诉了M她的社交活动安排 以及一反常态的夸Sophie说非常好的旅行同伴 'very pretty', 'very agreeable and useful' 这是用来刺激M的

10月23日晚上被引荐给丹麦王后然后下跪错了人Unluckily took the chief maid for the Queen because of her broad and ribbon and star.

Amidst the excitement of preparing for the party, Anne's thoughts turned to Ann Walker.

10月15日 姑姑Anne的来信里提到Miss Walker有意向回到Halifax 'though she had not mentioned it to Mrs Sutherland, on account of her not being well' 10月30日的日记又提 'I have thought much about Miss Walker lately' 以及思考为什么还没有收到Mrs Sutherland的回信 还想着是否再写一封信问问看

10月30日王后的生日派对描写 这里就不多说了 总之煤老板一身白

两个仆人是完全不让人省心 极其不称职 弄丢她的衣服 找不到钥匙 尤其是Eugenie经常在未经许可的情况下偷偷溜出去

11月19日Anne收到家里的来信 A worrying letter arrived from Marian about Aunt Anne's 'exceedingly precarious state of health' 前两页附上了Dr Kenny的诊断 煤老板陷入了挣扎 一方面凭她对Marian和Dr Kenny的了解 一个经常小题大做’alarmist‘ 一个就爱添油加醋 姑姑的实际病情可能没那么严重 但是另一方面她又不想冒这个风险 her aunt's health was too dear to her to run the risk

一周后(11月28日) 煤老板决定启程回去看看Aunt Anne

回程的艰辛比剧里表现的难得多了 风大浪大 煤老板还因此严重晕船I was really sick and got rid of all my tea and bread and butter....I can stand all this motion (11th December 1833)

The rough water made me sick immediately. Threw myself on the hard covered bench at the foot of the cot and sick and retching almost incessantly for the next 11 hours(12th December 1833)

1833年12月15日 历经15天的旅行 疲惫不堪头发凌乱的三个人终于在Gravesend的码头着陆 Apart from having splashed her face with cold water, Anne had not washed, or removed her clothes, for the last fifteen days.

接下来的5天里 Anne什么都没写 但是在12月23日Mariana寄给她的信里可以推断 煤老板应该是在16日-20日期间去过Lawton Hall

12月21日煤老板终于到达Shibden 她果然猜对了 就是Marian和Dr Kenny这两个人在小题大做 姑妈的身体虽然还是不好 但没有到病危的程度 15天未能换洗衣服冒着生命危险赶来那还能怎么样 当然是谴责啦 不知道日记里是不是也有记载说Dr Kenny说自己出于好意才写信 反正事实上他可是认认真真地把锅甩给了Marian

12月27日 Anne Lister收到了Ann Walker的信 It conveyed a remarkable coincidence

Miss Walker已经离开了苏格兰并在圣诞前夕到达了Lidgate 她对煤老板的突然返乡一无所知 until she had called at the hall, to see Anne's aunt and uncle【书里这里有个错误吧 Anne的叔叔早就去世了...】当煤老板得知此事的时候she was fifty miles away, at the Norcliffe's estate near York

Anyway两个人很快定好1月初的时候见面 Miss Walker was as eager as ever to see Anne

煤老板激动地在日记里说'How extraordinarily my return and hers too so close and unexpected on each other! (27th December 1833) ' 还加了个叹号哟 她也立马告诉了Mariana这件事情

M回信里比煤老板多了两个叹号 还说哇这是你注定的缘分哇 'Miss Walker returned to Lidgate!!! Fred, is this to be your fate?'

1月4日 Anne made the familiar brisk journey on foot from Shibden to Lidgate 【哈哈神清气爽的样子】 Miss Walker精神状态看起来好多了 10个月没见了 两个人可是有一肚子话要跟对方说 就这样从前一晚一直聊到第二天早上4点

Miss Walker说后悔离开了她 还说贱男Mr Ainsworth又给她写信 她有一次差点动了结婚的念头 但随后放弃了 ’Her sister told him she was not able to judge for herself, but he did not mind that, so both Captain and Mrs Sutherland got annoyed at him.' 【jajajajajajajajajajajajajaja】

Ann似乎是明确了自己想跟Anne在一起的心 好像很有把握两个人会在一起 但是Anne倒不怎么确定 'Miss W talked as if she would be glad to take me, then If I say anything decisive, she hesitates' 而且Miss Walker突然回到Halifax是否真如她所说的单纯就是想远离Sutherlands夫妇俩? Was Anne only the second reason for her return?

煤老板现在已经没有精力也没有意愿再回到之前那样一直在兜圈子的关系 如果两个人会有未来 她想让Miss Walker能真正地commit to her 交换戒指 以及在上帝面前与她一起领圣餐

2月10日 Anne Lister stated her case for their union a final timeShe agreed and it was understood she was to consider herself as nobody to please and being under no authority but mine.

1834年2月12日 the decision appeared final 她们将要许下婚誓对彼此做出承诺 'She is to give me a ring and I her one in token of our union, as confirmed on Monday' 煤老板还在2月21日里的日记里对她们未来的幸福生活充满希望

2月27日两个人终于交换了戒指 As they travelled together towards a call at the Norcliffes' estate, the pact was quietly made. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

尽管还要再等一个月两个人才会在Goodramgate教堂领圣餐 但是交换戒指已经让煤老板have complete confidence in their bond 之前性生活的时候煤老板是不肯裸露自己的 因为觉得没有commitment 交换戒指的当晚she allowed herself to be 'near' to AnnNo drawers on last night. First time and first attempt to get really near her. Did not succeed very well but she seemed tolerable satisfied.(27th February 1834)

【这里有书和日记的小伙伴我有一点疑问 书里说2月27日交换了戒指 然后that day 她完全地对Miss Walker毫无保留 但是日记27日写的是no drawers on last night? 所以其实应该是26日？】

Miss Walker虽说同意搬去Shibden 但是还不想公开与Anne的伴侣关系 remained reticent about going public with her decision to live as Anne's companion. 感觉挺像已经出柜的另一半希望你跟家人出柜吧...Anne对未来同居生活的美好憧憬有一部分是因为家人都很支持她啊 书里着重提了一下妹妹Marian对她跟Miss Walker的结合非常高兴Both my father and Marian seem pleased about Miss W. Said I thought I should be happier with her than I should now be with Mrs Lawton, to which Marian seemed to agree without the least surprise (7th March)

四天后 煤老板也帮了Marian一把 帮她给她的求爱者写了一封拒信

1834年3月30日上午10:35 Anne Lister和Ann Walker一起迈入教堂领了圣餐

To Anne Lister, their commitment had been solemnised. They had been joined together in the eyes of God.

1834年9月 Miss Walker正式搬进了Shiben. Lister家族自然是非常欢迎 但是Walker的亲戚们倒没那么热情 他们解释是煤老板唯利是图 强势地拐走了他们的亲戚 抛弃了Ann在Cliff Hill年迈的姑妈 Making their feelings clear over the coming years 他们经常不请自来去Shibden找Miss Walker 还拒绝认可煤老板或跟她握手

虽说两人的关系并没有改善Ann的焦虑症 两个人还经常在钱上有分歧 Anne Lister had found the domestic security she had craved all her life

1835年2月10日 两个人的一周年纪念日【神一般的纪念日日期 难道不是应该挑换戒指或者领圣餐那天吗？？？？好吧不过也有道理】Ann and I had excellent plumb pudding today in commemoration of the first anniversary of being together so comfortable and so happily — may we live to enjoy many more

1836年老爹Jeremy跟姑姑Anne在几个月里相继去世 同一年Marian离开了Shibden搬去了Market Weighton

Mariana最终接受了Anne和Ann在一起生活的事实 1836年11月 M来Shibden呆了一周 气氛竟然非常友好 ‘M really likes Ann — and the liking is mutual’ (7th November 1836) 其实偶尔M有试着去撩煤老板 但是煤老板拒绝了一切亲密的行为

1840年9月在俄罗斯旅行途中Anne因发烧最终去世 Miss Walker花了6个月的时间把煤老板的遗体带回Shibden 【虽说早已经知道这个 但是自己敲了一遍感觉还是非常心酸 Ann真的太惨了】

Ann Walker之后依旧住在Shibden 但是因为Anne的去世她精神状况开始恶化 几年后她去了约克的一家精神病院呆了一段时间后 最终搬回了Cliff Hill一直到她1854年去世

之前试图读她早期的日记 但是太琐碎 加上我只想了解她和她的女朋友们 所以就放弃了

感谢BBC 感谢HBO 感谢Sally 我现在真的非常着迷该剧 于是买了所谓的official companion book 伴着剧一起下饭

感觉大家应该也对Miss Lister感兴趣 所以想着就读到的一些跟剧里的做一下参照 跟大家分享一下

也想顺手整理一下时间线 毕竟大家是盼着1834年的到来

【我看到哪里写哪里 屁股后面一堆deadline 也是抽空偷闲看书 所以不定期更新】

阿姨的图镇一张 鼻血要流干了粗略的背景介绍

这里introduction描述的是在剧开始之前的一些背景

小时候爹妈就管不住 但是成绩好大家也都没办法 数学好 一生都酷爱读书 有极高的求知欲 而且非常自律【剧里她一直都在看表There was never a point in her life when there was any loss in form, no hiatus in production - just consistent, detailed, daily accounts of what she did, what she saw and what she felt.

初恋是在寄宿学校认识的Eliza Raine（这大家应该都知道了） 不过书里提到的说是first sexual relationship 🤔后来被劝退一是因为这段恋情 二是因为也到处撩其他女孩子们【这个渣T【这里不知道理解的对不对 书里说是but also for her disruptive behaviour towards the other girls】S01 E02S01 E02S01 E02

然后1815年 24的Anne正式搬到Shibden 跟Aunt Anne 和Uncle James一起住

1817年的时候决定 永远穿黑色【除了一些不得已的场合

所以参加前任的婚礼时:S01 E02

Anne 解释说是【她最爱的】Mariana在16年前出嫁时她就开始穿一身黑 没错 她就是Anne念念不忘的Mariana 1813年相恋 直到1816年M结婚

剧里提到她解刨人体， 日记里也提到她1831年在巴黎的经历: 'an arm, a head and a number of foetuses' 【他妈的哪里是仅仅解刨过一个胎儿啊 明明是若干】S01 E02

虽然后来她叔叔死后（1826年） 让她继承Shibden 但是因为她Aunt Anne 还有老爹还活着【直到这两人1836年去世】所以那时她在资金使用权方面还是限制

身高大概165 (5 feet, 4½ inches)， 体重大概52，53公斤(8 stone, 4¼ pounds) 平胸 声音低沉 walked at a greate pace with an imposing upright stance 【Suranne真的外形很符合了 走姿也很到位】

我非常欣赏她的一点是她在那个年代能有正确的认知且坚定不移.

1816年8月的日记提到she 'should never marry' and that she 'could not like men'， 而且我不记得哪里看到了 分析说Anne在这个年代会是个女转男trans 但是书里明确打了那个作者的脸:she wanted to love women as a woman - and not as a woman dressed as a man

前面提过Anne是一个求知欲很强的人 一生都在孜孜不倦的学习（和做实验）

所以在学习了‘female organs of generation'后 1832年2月17日她记录到finding out distinctly for the first time in my life the clitoris

她在探索女性身体的道路。。。。她其实很早之前就有了这方面的认知。。。。。。。。

【 毕竟早些年 在不懂的时候 1825年1月13日她还把阴蒂描述为just like an internal penis

后来在1831年4月24日记录到自己'spent the next few months getting better acquainted with it, periodically locking herself in her water-closet 'try to enlarge' it through 'titillation' '【我这里已经笑死了哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈】

她反正经常对自己做些奇怪的性试验啦 但是普通人不会记录 她却啥都写

有次试着把自己的手指塞到菊花里 想尝试下'鸡奸'能带来的快感 ('to see what pleasure sodomy could give')【救命啊】

她反正就一直是攻的角色 她记录的性行为都有oral sex, finger penetration and queer 'closeness', or vagina-on-vagina touching 【这些我就不翻译了。。】但是从来不用toys

她的床伴有11个【哈？？才11个？？？】 她跟大多数前任保持了良好的朋友关系

一些情史网上也能查到我就不说了【或者等我赶完deadline我再写】 事实上她也多次打算跟恋人结婚 反正都无果 然后到了她四十岁的时候 她想settle down的心越发认真了 心中的完美wife是有钱的受过良好教育的贵族

那时候也就是剧开始的时候 她跟Vere Hobart【关系从1829到1832】掰了 ⬇️Vere还是她一位前任Sibbella Maclean的侄女【Anne真的很努力地在睡女孩子】

所以1832年心碎回到Shibden 那时候Aunt Anne 66岁 饱受风湿折磨; father Jeremy 79岁 听力日渐下降；妹妹Marian 34岁

然后有一天 隔壁的Ann Walker来拜访...============= 【突然的更新是因为发现deadline不是今天而是明天 哈哈哈哈哈哈】====================================1829 - 1832 with Vere Hobart

读完后我感觉Vere像那种 不说是 也不说不是 跟你绕弯子 反反复复 一会儿晾着你一会儿由着你 内心已经决定要嫁人【还在等对方求婚】 但是还不让你去撩其他女孩子 等到确定了婚事 然后跟你拜拜的那种直女 —— 不过这是以Anne的视角来看的 或许是有点片面

刚开始Anne对Vere的印象并不好，1829年遇见对方的时候在日记里觉得她蠢（Vere was 'goose'） 一会儿又直接说头脑简单（branded her a 'noodle'）之后跟自己的旧情人Mariana Lawton对比后评价Vere是'a good humoured fat girl'（1829年7月30日） - 。 。-

Anne这种智商的人 觉得普通人笨也是很正常了 但是她真的太坏了 整天在日记里写妹子们的坏话 虽然觉得她也在拿自己的阅历评价小年轻 Vere在1829年的时候只有27岁 Anne都要奔四了

但是随着两个人更多的接触 Anne改变了主意：真香 她开始对Vere献殷勤 也开始暗示自己对她的喜欢 日记里详细记录了两人暧昧的细节 比如她可以给Vere脱去睡衣(gown) 但是里面的衬裙(petticoats)不行; Vere还给她弹情歌; 她夸Vere 'she was pretty, had the prettiest mouth I ever saw' (类似的招数是不是对Miss Rawson用过) and noted Vere took the compliment very well. 所以在1829年10月13-14的日记里说恩 这妹子喜欢我

1829年10月17日的旅行笔记里提到过 两个人单独在一起的时候 Vere提到过When Anne happened to touch her, it led to a 'ticklish' feeling she could not quite fathom.😂

Anne还跟Vere说呀我要搞一套加密字母表啦 我们可以用这些secret code给对方写信呀【这一招其实Anne常用 来勾搭那些有点意思的妹子们】

煤老板真的对自己非常自信且自恋 Vere暧昧不已的态度也是一起拉她往坑里掉 比如最早在1829年7月30日她在日记里记录到说 'Vere明确说她以后一定会嫁人 但是同时又说很喜欢跟我在一起’;

第二天的日记还对这段关系抱有积极的幻想：I cannot quite make Miss H out – whether she does not like me much, whether I have overdone it with attentation – or whether she likes me and does not want to show it – and rather flirts with me. Is the latter possible?

Anyway, Vere是个伯爵的女儿 算是个小贵族吧 周围交际圈也都类似 跟这种小上流阶层比 没什么钱的地主Anne跟她的Shibden是差了一些 然而Anne天生善于交际 一直都渴望往上游 怎么会错过这种social的机会呢？从日记来看她非常努力在讨好Vere周围的posh friends 而且非常想融入 一个小细节是Vere有次somehow提到煤老板一年有5000英镑的收入 对此煤老板没有纠正; 日记也开始更加流露出对medium people的嫌弃(也包括Mariana Lawton) 说did not suit her any more.

在这里煤老板的形象是不是有点掉

不知道为什么书里几乎没有提到1830年的日记(仅有一处) 大多数笔墨都是1829年她想讨好Vere 她跟上流社会的交际 以及1831秋-1832年春的心碎Hastings事件

由此也引入了剧的开始 所有人都问她那里发生了什么

书里也没有明确提煤老板跟Vere是否有更深入的关系 【恩没错我是指两个人到底有没有睡过】 只是说在巴黎的时候两个人没有更进一步 但是Vere一直对她有所保留 比如之前完全没有提Donald Cameron 一直到1831年秋在Hastings

1831年9月20日的日记里明确的看出煤老板应该是知道了Donald 并且内心受了伤 但是她立马就萌生了备胎计划也是。。。。她写道 'I may take the society this winter at Hastings, and then Lady Gordon will suit me much better' 😂【Lady Gordon是煤老板跟Vere的共同好友】

不过煤老板的字典里从来就没有放弃两个字 她对自己的高度自信让她觉得能跟Donald Cameron竞争 哎。。之后撞得灰头土脸大家也都知道了

Vere在被求婚之前对煤老板是忽冷忽热【我猜可能是因为等求婚等得很焦躁吧】 从记录来看1831年的秋冬是煤老板最惨的时候 Vere大多数非常冷漠 并觉得她无趣 并表示不想多待在一起 有时候却不拒绝亲密 比如1831年12月31日 Anne kissed Vere gently on the lips and Vere didn't say anything 让煤老板觉得1832年会有所好转

但是被迅速打脸 新年后两个人反正不断的争吵 连goodnight kisses都没了 1月9日Donald Cameron终于现身 Anne对他的第一印象竟然还不错

3月份的时候Vere其实想离开Hastings 但是Donald还是没跟她求婚 未来还没有着落 所以她就想先把Anne留在身边 as a potential 'companion', and did not want to lose Anne's affections to another woman. 【讲道理这里我其实半信半疑 毕竟这些结论肯定是从Anne的日记里得出的我猜 加上煤老板是多自恋的人啊】

说真的我完全不懂为什么煤老板还要在那里耗 1832年初的日记里各种心碎 各种孤独寂寞冷 然而她却一直拖到了4月13日 才有了回家的想法 并终于开始打包东西

突然 4月15日Donald求了婚 Anne在当天的日记里简短地记录到: she will not say no 那时候煤老板刚刚过了41岁生日没两周

伤心欲绝了一段时间后 Anne前往伦敦 并在29号时候她一时兴起去Cheltenham 想着勾搭一下Lady Gordon 结果对方并没有这个想法 并明确地表示如果要一起旅行的话 要分房间睡 没什么钱耗的煤老板一听这: 告辞 并在当天的日记里写道: My high society plans fail....I shall now get out my scrape as well as I can.....Well, I have gained experience

5月4日她跟Mariana在Cheshire 但丝毫没有提起Anne的兴致和性致 她认为'the sex was tolerable' 还担心被Mariana的老公间接传播性病 因为做完后 ‘felt hot after it, it frightens me though I have washed twice....she is not, I fear, to be touched with impunity' 而且早在1821年的时候就这么被传染过一次

M一心想着等老公死了就可以跟Anne一起了 但是Anne却在5月7日写道：Mariana still thinks me altered and fine, and feels restrained, I am sure, and this has destroyed our chance of our being together - she would live and die where she is

当晚8:25分 身心俱疲的煤老板回到了Shibden有钱的好邻居Miss Walker

1832年5月份Anne回到Shibden后就一直忙忙碌碌 因为之前在上流社会接触的那段时间 再回来就感觉哪里都vulgar vulgar vulgar 所以刚回家才一个月就又想着离开旅行

说几点剧里改编过的细节 但是不是很重要啦

一是车夫George的死 是回来之后的6月份死去Langton Hall的 死因跟剧里描述的一样 Anne也确实参与了验尸诚心不让妹妹吃饭

二是在自己的管家Briggs生病之前(可怜的Briggs在9月17日病逝) 她其实就有意向让Samuel Washington来继任了

三是她跟Ann Walker在1820年的相遇就是当时是因为发生了马车事故 我猜是把这段故事挪到了剧开始：Ann recollected encountering Miss Walker, her elder sister and their mother in the aftermath of a carriage accident that had occurred on Shibden land in 1820. The Walkers were offered a cup of tea and a lantern to light their way home, but not friendship.

四是Mariana在她回到Shibden后还是继续各种书信往来 M说她’unsettled life‘ was having a bad effect on her temperament and resulting in her'odd and particular' treatment of others 煤老板5月份的时候回应'I am as I am' 其实同时内心有在留意隔壁这个富有的女继承人Ann Walker 而不是完全没有考虑

最后是Walker一家作为暴发户’new money‘ 在多处都有房产 书里提到他们来自Lightcliffe 而Ann是住在其中的Lidgate 不是剧里提到的Crow Nest

她们之间的恋情始于1832年 但是早之前也见过几次 1820s煤老板的日记里就零星记录【judge】了这一家子人

在1822年6月18日提到Miss Walker:A stupid, vulgar girl indeed

随后8月19日的时候又说她姐姐Elizabeth 'deadly stupid'

1832年7月6日 Ann Walker 跟着亲戚Atkinson两口子去煤老板家串门 书里提到说 仔细品品当天的日记的话 就会发现那里煤老板有小小的撩拨了一下 : there is to be found a tiny hit of flirtation in a joke she makes with Miss Walker 'about travelling' together.

一周后煤老板回访 在Lightcliffe她跟Walker以及Walker的亲戚们参观了那里的三处房产

Ann Walker 比煤老板小12岁 她的焦虑和自卑 不好说是不是因为童年时候她爹的虐待

William Priestley在1822年的时候跟Anne提过Walker爹 'ill-treated his wife and daughters'; 几年后他老婆Mrs Priestley更详细地聊了一下 expanded on the nature of Miss Walker's mental illness 所以1828年8月28日Anne的日记里说起Miss Walker的insanity 同年11月6日Mrs Priestley又对煤老板表示对Miss Walker精神状况的担忧 she feared she would 'end in idiocy'Priestley夫妇

1830s 姐姐Elizabeth远嫁苏格兰 Ann一个小人住在大大的Lidgate 应该是非常无聊 日常交际也就盼着Catherine Rawson, Miss Parkhill 还有她的画画老师 Mr Brown来 除此之外她尽可能的用sewing, knitting and small philanthropic work来填补其他的时间

虽然Miss Walker跟煤老板性格完全不同 但是经历有点像 比如因为父母早逝 所以Walker也是跟她姑妈关系更亲近 再比如Ann能继承财产也是因为兄弟的死

煤老板那时候是真穷 1833年2月2日的时候她记录过算出一年的收入大概在830-840英镑之间 her own income was somewhere between £830 and £840 per annum 算是非常一般的乡绅了 但Ann手边的钱就是她的两倍多 'By contrast, Ann Walker had more than double that amount at her disposal.‘

因为Ann Walker自己有钱 家里人也都算着呢 比如剧里也提到她姐夫的妈希望她嫁给自己的一个败家亲戚Alexander Mackenzie

剧里Miss Walker提过家里联姻很厉害的 所以当时Walker, Rawson, Edwards and Priestley四家人就从经济到政治都把控了Halifax

而Ann 这样一个有着高收入的未婚女子at the heart of such a family, she held considerable power

这些煤老板都 一 清 二 楚 【加粗划重点】

就在Anne拜访Ann的同一天 她收到了Jeremiah Rawson的信 说想谈谈矿的事情 在跟她的煤矿经纪人James Holt 讨论了之后 做了点算数 得出来每英亩收£226.17.6

1832年7月19日周二 Jeremiah来访 开门见山问价格 整个逗留时间不超过25分钟The price, wrote Anne,'frightened him'

1832年8月10日煤老板又去拜访Ann 据称这次访问只是unremarkable 两个人就客客气气的喝喝茶聊聊邻里间的八卦 Ann确实也吐槽了Dr Kenny的试图亲近 但是an insight into Anne's inner thoughts make the story quite different 🤔🤔🤔🤔

Walker的友好让煤老板觉得 或许有那么种可能For Anne, there was romantic promise in the fact of their getting on so 'very well together'. The possibility of courting Miss Walker had entered her mind 'several times before of late'.

当晚她在日记里写道：shall I try and make up to her?Miss Walker去旅游啦

一周后煤老板又去Walker家撩妹 但是中途先去了Priestley家聊了会天【剧里看来是把顺序调换了】 后来告辞后在Ann家里呆了3个小时 this would be the longest amount of time the two women had ever spent together

作为两百年前的人 煤老板对找个好头衔老婆的执着可以理解 19世纪 异性恋的传统组合是for the middle and upper-class, a ’good match‘ was a marriage that made financial sense, with love a secondary consideration 煤老板人再open-minded 在大环境影响下这种心理其实是根深蒂固的 之前追求Vere和试图融入上流阶层无果 让她觉得 恩 Walker虽然没有头衔 但是有钱 况且我们Lister的名号could be enough for them both

之后几天两个人没有见面 所以具体Anne的生活我就不提了 反正书里就写她一直忙忙碌碌 找父亲要钱翻修房子 跟佃农相处 惦记着出国玩 以及与Aunt Anne非常铁的关系

此处插播一件跟Mariana和Vere相关的事情

1832年7月24日Mariana去Shibden找煤老板 同一天她刚好也收到Vere的婚礼请帖 实际上Anne之后并没有去参加婚礼 只是写了信给Vere的亲戚说哇恭喜不去没空

这次M来估计是想化解两个人在5月份那次的不快 也想着旧情复燃to have stirred up old feelings 但是煤老板却觉得疲倦 在M走的前一天日记记录着'felt relieved to get rid of her'

8月5日M来信说抱歉背叛了两个人的关系选择了出嫁

8月20日M又来信抱怨跟老公Charles Lawton的关系 煤老板却觉得烦 'well,' she wrote on 20th August 1832, 'I trust I have done with her. I rarely think of her without irritation. '

8月中下旬的时候 她终于决定好Chaumière的建造位置 并计划于9月底完工就是这个

1832年9月初 Ann Walker要跟Catherine Rawson去Lake District呆三周 那时候Anne Lister感觉已经有相当的自信 to ask Miss Walker if she would be thinking of her while she was away 而Ann的回应 rather romantic question was encouraging'Yes, she would not forget'

两个人在Ann离开前一天打算在Halifax消磨一下午 而Anne在约会的前一天晚上就计划好了自己的outfit 她想着不仅给Miss Walker 也给未来的亲家们留个好印象 9月3日一早Ann就来Shibden找Anne 一直等到上午11:50两个人坐着Ann的马车去市里串门 An ambitious itinerary of social calls had been planned 一直到下午5:30分把煤老板送回了家

其实这么看下来 比较喜欢剧里的改编了 各种这么社交听上去就挺无聊的

Ann离开的两天后 煤老板在日记里第一次用特有的描述 记录了因为一边想着Miss Walker一边自慰高潮

整段都摘抄了：Two days after Ann Walker left for the Lake District, Anne 'incurred a cross' while thinking about her. It marked the first time she had used the phrase about her. Always recorded in crypt hand at the top of the day's diary entry, this was Anne's preferred way to describe an orgasm she had achieved by masturbation. It was frequently used in conjunction with the name of her current or would-be lover, and sometimes followed with the specification that she had been thinking of that woman 'merely as a mistress'

【我收回之前说煤老板追求Ann Walker只图钱的观点 日记来看 还是有喜爱的】

Anne趁着Miss Walker不在的时候 就开始处理各种杂事 跟佃农的纠纷啦 煤啦 还有穷也要继续返修的勇气(借钱的信都写好了 但是没寄) 她那80岁的老父亲 基本已经就Anne你随便吧爱咋咋地我不管了(其实剧里也能看出这种小细节 经常就是一个'呵呵'的眼神 然后不说话)

顺便一提Anne不是又想着出国旅行了嘛 所以也在找贴身女仆 Mariana在9月9日的来信中给她推荐了法国女孩23岁的Eugenie 因为M知道Anne对异国风情的喜爱 Anne也确实很看重这一点 但是更多也在询问Eugenie的细节 比如一定要健康 一定要爱旅行之类 同时也开始思考Miss Walker是否能跟她一起旅行

1832年9月26日 Ann回来的第二天 两个人如约一起吃了早饭 聊了大概一个半小时 相处地非常愉快 'Very civil, our conversation quite confidential'

Anne非常感动Miss Walker给她带回来一件大理石镇纸作为礼物 但了解到Ann并不想去意大利(书里特地说了一句这里并没有性暗示哈哈哈哈 我也没往这上面想啊) 此处是想说明Ann不愿意国外旅行

后来煤老板就回去了Shibden 但刚到没10分钟就发现Ann的佣人James来找她拿书 to collect some books which Anne had forgotten to bring to Lidgate for Miss Walker 于是Anne草草地写了一张便条道歉 offering 'a thousand apologies'

其实两个人又再约了第二天吃早饭 也就是9月27日再见面 所以Ann是真的这么着急看书吗？It is tempting to speculate that it was a desire of Ann Walker's to establish further communication with Anne Lister before their next meeting that prompted her to send her servant to Shibden, more than any impatience to read her books.

明明是再多等一天也无妨的事情 Ann对煤老板的喜爱之情显露无疑

不管怎样 这也给了煤老板一个撩妹的机会 她让James带回去的便条里 operated within the romantic conventions of the day

她说 she had 'played truant' by staying longer than she had intended at Lidgate. The visit had given her 'so much to think of afterwards, that is long after I have actually left you'

It was the Georgian equivalent of texting your date afterwards, to tell them you've had a good time 😏

第二天9月27日两个人在早上7:30后吃早餐 之后两个人去另一个房间继续共度时光 突然来了两位不速之客 Stansfield Rawson和 Delia Rawson 俩Rawson当时的古怪态度也跟剧里一样 反正煤老板心想刚跟Ann分别了三周自己才不要这么早就走呢

四个人待了一会后Rawson们发现自己的战斗力比不过比不过就告辞了 Miss Walker之后说 was 'glad' of it

吃过午饭后煤老板建议去散步 说想带Ann看看刚修的路和新建的草屋 据当天的日记记载说两个人绝对在里面呆了几个小时 茅舍隐秘又浪漫 是绝佳的撩妹圣地 这应该也是煤老板在这里选址的目的

Miss Walker是第一位被邀请的客人 and was duly enchanted可爱She sat in the moss house, hardly liking to move. Of course I made myself agreeable, and I think she likes me even more than she herself is aware

借此良机Anne又提出一起去国外旅行的事情 在前一天的对话里 Ann不知道煤老板是不是在开玩笑 ‘all a joke’ 现在煤老板说希望Miss Walker能认真考虑一下自己的提议

Her endeavours appeared to be successful , and the conversation took a decidedly romantic turn.

当晚的日记记录到Ann提到了marriage的字眼 是自己提的哟【下面摘抄字号48 加粗】'We laughed at the idea of the talk our going aboard would [make], she said it would be as good as a marriage. 'Yes', said [I]. 'Quite as good or better' '

跟Miss Walker在一起 Anne有一种焕然一新的感觉 found a refreshing lack of worldliness

1832年9月底Ann接受了煤老板的旅行邀请We shall go on swimmingly, and our courtship will progress naturally - she already likes me - perhaps she scarce knows how. We shall both be in love seriously enough before our journey (1832年9月28日)

剧里第二集难免 或者至少是我觉得煤老板非常厚脸皮和真自信 第一次拜访后就得出'哇人家喜欢我'的结论 现在按照时间段读下来发现我完全误解了煤老板 虽然Anne一直在试探 但至少Ann这两个月间是有意无意间也给了很多鼓励和暗示 或者暴露了自己的喜欢【但是自己不知道那是什么的情感】

为了跟Ann的旅行做铺垫 煤老板想着得去讨好Walker的一系列亲戚们 所以9月29日的时候去拜访了Priestleys两口子 之后又去找了Miss Walker

到这时候两个人已经是非常暧昧了 但是很多对话却预示着暴风雨前的平静

比如Ann的缺乏自信 摇摆不定 以及第一反应是不想去Shibden居住 都预示了未来几个月这段感情的虐

书里也提到了Ann提议推迟旅行是因为Ainsworth夫妇的到访 煤老板就想着那刚好有时间照顾生病的Aunt Anne ; Ann对去Shibden定居的愿景表示不太情愿 煤老板私底下承认说确实为难她毕竟还太早 但是was happpy to have planted the thought in Miss Walker's mind

那时候 Anne并没有对Miss Walker出柜 拜访的时候基本也就聊聊家常 聊聊旅行 但是Anne对Walker也了解的不多 她并不知道Ann之前有没有过什么恋情 但是assumed that Ann was sexually inexperienced 😂 which reinforced her interest that she must tread sensitively and carefully

因为煤老板这天在Walker家逗留到太晚 所以9月29日的日记里提到说Aunt Anne和妹妹Marian对她安全的担忧 因为那时候治安并不好 加上从Lightcliffe到Shibden那条路是又黑又暗

哎 天天跟妹妹吵架 吵归吵 也没耽误跟姑妈分享与Miss Walker惬意相处的好心情

当天的日记里Anne表露了自己的失望 that was disappointing that Miss Walker had not yet mentally erased the possibility of a relationship with a man 但另一方面 不得不说也是给了人希望

Anne viewed her own relationships firmly within a heterosexual framework. 在主流异性恋社会的影响下 Anne想着跟相伴一生的爱人在上帝面前宣誓 并交换戒指也很正常【一直到2019年还是没变的套路】

煤老板是意识到了Miss Walker的个性真的非常矛盾 Their curx, ironically, was to be Miss Walker's surprising sexual confidence.

当天下午她们的关系又有了新的进展：I had my arm on the back of the sofa. She leaned on it, looking as if I might be affectionate and it ended in her lying on my arm all the morning and my kissing her and she returning it with such a long continued, passionate or nervous mumbling kiss.....I thinking to myself,'Well, this is rather more than I expected

煤老板对Miss Walker前后的矛盾举动也越加confused 她的直觉一方面告诉她要 be cautious and mind what I say 另一方面觉得a little spice of matrimony应该也是不错的

虽然今天有点小波折 但还是两人关系进展标志性的一天

【趁着刚几个大项目的上下空隙 我终于有空看书了 6.8更】

接上文的当天 也就是10月4日 Miss Walker说收到一封匿名信 日记里并没有提信里的内容 所以作者就推测可能是Ann家族写的 用来警告煤老板

煤老板几年来一直都收到一些信来嘲讽她穿着打扮 也暗指她 '不正常的'性取向 Anne早就习惯了 但是Ann没有 一有风吹草动她就很紧张

5日的是时候两人又约

Anne是相信Miss Walker全心全意爱着她的 但是对要等6个月这件事 心里没什么底 而且她越发觉得Miss Walker没有外表看上去那样单纯

10月7日的时候煤老板终于去了一次教堂 因为对她来说祷文在家读读就行啦 花几个小时没有意义 加上她经常在布道的时候睡着 【哈哈哈哈哈 好可爱】

不过这天Mrs Priestley发现忠实信徒Miss Walker竟然意外缺了席

她跟煤老板一说 两个人之后就去Ann家看了一眼 发现Ann没什么事儿 Mrs Priestley呆了一会就走了 留下两个人继续聊天顺便做一些羞羞的事情

之前Anne晚归搞得家人很担心 于是John就被派去接Anne 就发生了跟剧里一样的事情 日记记载当晚Mrs Priestley肯定也意识到了什么煤老板这里确定想打人的

那时候Eleanor Butler 和 Sarah Ponsonby已经同居42年了 Miss Ponsonby打扮得略butch 给Anne 留下了深刻的印象 但是了解到她俩从爱尔兰跑到这里也是为了逃家里的逼婚或逼出家后 她觉得自己非常幸运 出柜成功家人支持 有点收入 加上够聪明 能让她过上她想要的生活 但是她最受不了就是要掩饰自己

这次愉快的拜访加上两个人独特的生活方式 had a profound effect on Anne's romantic imagination 上面的链接也提到了 Anne暗搓搓地猜两个人肯定是有性生活的

搞定了一些social calls后 她去了Lidgate 本来只打算呆a few minutes 因为煤老板来大姨妈了(or 'cousin' as she called it) The preparation, washing and burning of bloodied rags was a time-consuming inconvenience 正好可以在接下来几天as an excuse to put some space between Ann and Anne

不过Miss Walker怎么会这么轻易的放她走呢 煤老板一直在那里呆到了晚上六点多 期间两人又聊天 煤老板又试探 后来两个人又把帘子放下 开始make out

10月13日的时候 妹妹Marian回来的当天 煤老板又去劝说Miss Walker跟她去看医生 终于Ann答应了

【14日的时候煤老板写信给Mariana说要带个朋友找她弟弟看病 但是只字不提她跟Miss Walker的关系】

虽然Miss Walker一直对将来的同居计划保持沉默 但是肉体关系是continued to develop

1832年10月15日两个人又干柴烈火 Anne took this as a sign that Miss Walker was preparing to accept her proposal:.....She whispered to me in bed how gentle and kind I was to her, and faintly said she loved me

10月19日Ann来大姨妈了 所以'I was most tender over her' 当天呆到非常晚才回去 到了Shibden的时候都晚上11:20了 她姑妈自然非常生气 不过她就过去哄姑妈 然后聊了下跟Miss Walker的进展 说一切都非常顺利

但事实并非如此 其实她当晚回家的时候内心已经felt distinctly 'annoyed' at their stalmate

Miss Walker越发搪塞 煤老板就越觉得看不到希望 所以她决定had best care little about her

不过病 该看的还是得看 10月22日 两个人到达了YorkAinsworth你给我走

在约克的时候 Anne也趁机各种跟老朋友聚 其中也包括Mariana的妹妹（或者姐姐） Harriet Milne

煤老板曾跟Harriet有过一段 10月23日的日记说跟她见面 Harriet说很看好她跟Miss Walker的事情 but we made 'foot love' under the table

Belcombe医生的诊断非常简洁 病因是Miss Walker有钱有闲 Miss Walker had too much money and too little to do, and had managed to think herself into being ill 其实这是因为当时医学水平限制 只能把这类精神疾病认为是女性‘特有的’歇斯底里

日记并没有记载Miss Walker 对诊断结果的看法 但是显然病情并没有好转 10月24日的日记说 ‘no grubbling last night - she was sore’ {密语温习: Grubbling meant using her hand to bring another woman to orgasm} 但是10月25日回Halifax的路上 在利兹经停的时候 a little 'grubbling' in the carriage 书里还提到路上两个人对未来的规划上还越聊越兴奋 至此Anne认为‘seemed quite agreed’ 她认为虽然Miss Walker还没有答应她 但是越来越迷恋她了

10月26日的时候两人拜访Ann的姑姑 之后的情形跟剧是一样的

Miss Walker虽然说：这样我们可以在1月份出国旅行了 但是Anne察觉到Miss Walker was in fact much affected

当天还在日记里这般乌鸦嘴:It instantly struck me. She would in due time succeed her friend and be Mrs Ainsworth.

不过两个人性生活还是很愉快的

10月不紧不慢地要结束 煤老板也在日记也记录了这段时间的healthy sex life:lay in bed grubbling and love-making till our linen was almost as wet as yesterday morning

剧里并没有提Isabella Norcliffe (Tib) 看过BBC之前Maxine那版Lister的姬友们可能还记得有一位非常喜欢煤老板想跟煤老板度过一生 但是却一直被拒的那个炮友

【没错 也是killing eve那个英语老师】

Tib来信 说provided an opportunity for Anne to air her positivity about the affair 煤老板没有明提对Tib还有没有感情 但是说了the 'really nice girl' Ann was turning out to be

煤老板越发对这段感情有信心 她甚至考虑如果Ann答应她的话 她可以搬去Lidgate

10月31日 日记里记载道终于成功地劝Ann把等待期限从4月3日提前至1月1日了 并越发认为Miss Walker会答应嫁给她

但是11月1日 Thomas Ainsworth早上的来信让Miss Walker开始动摇 也让煤老板在日记里的猜想成了真She begged me to stay till she had read her letter from Mr Ainsworth ...Ainsworth hopes Miss W will not forsake him as a friend and begs her to write to him

这位贱男的意图很明显: “我妻子死了 我想跟你搞事情 请来信暗示我行动”

Anne也察觉到了 这来信根本就是另有所图 he had romantic intentions

所以煤老板直截了当地跟Miss Walker说了想法 然后让她在Ainsworth和自己之间做选择 周一给答复【查了一下1832年11月1日 是周四】

Anne虽然经常口口声声地说我才不要在乎Ann的决定呢 但贱男的这一封信直接内心海啸了a period of intense emotional turmoil

日记里记录了Ann说煤老板有多好有多好 以及'she said there was as something in me she liked better than in him. Felt repugnance to forming any connection with the other sex' 【特地加了粗】

11月2日

Miss Walker答应要送煤老板一件礼物来以表不变的真情: a 'golden lock' of her own pubic hair 😂😂

Anne, having 'kissed her queer' {又是我的温馨提示, queer is vagina}, handed Ann the scissors to cut it herself

两个人哭着亲吻对方 离别的时候Miss Walker真的非常伤心了 She hung upon me and cried and sobbed aloud at parting

煤老板回家后发现Jeremiah Rawson正在等他 所以那两天就是在处理煤矿的事情 跟剧里差不多 各种讨价还价和计划自己挖煤矿的事情 以及考虑出国旅行

但是钱一直是煤老板的心头病 她当时是有多穷呢

3日的时候她去Halifax取钱Went to the bank - got £50, and then the balance against me equals £14 (3rd November 1832)

不过对未来还是抱有期待的煤老板 想着要保护Miss Walker的资产权益 就趁着在Halifax的时候找她的律师起草了一份针对Miss Walker一个佃农的赔偿协议 因为他偷了干草

回去Shibden后煤老板就写了一封长长饱含各种建议的信给Miss Walker 她似乎是想让Ann不要老想着final desicion 不妨channelling nervousness into practical management of her state 再是想证明自己是个非常合格的partner + protector

Ann当晚的回信还是模棱两可 'I have been better today because I have been employing myself for you, but I am still very nervous'

由此煤老板就在日记里问自己 Miss Walker的决定到底会是什么

11月4日她收到Lady Stuart的来信说Donald的父亲去世了 也就是Vere的公公 这一下子就让Lister的思绪回到了凄凄惨惨的1832年 去年的这个时候 她正在Hastings争取Vere的芳心 结果以失败告终 今年似乎又重蹈了去年的老路

11月5日的时候 也就是周一 煤老板如剧里一样 收到了'一个无法决定所以把锅推给对方'的水果篮子

1832年就这样结束了

【我晚了两天更的原因是。。。。。最近沉迷明日方舟。。。。。太可怕了一刷就是一整天。。。。。辣鸡游戏毁我人生！！！！所以我删了】

果篮里Miss Walker的信 开头表达了自己的纠结 又说这段时间身体又不好 无法做出公平的判断 所以就让上帝决定 同样的也是让煤老板或她姑姑从钱包里抓阄

看完信后煤老板整个人都不好了" in agitation, little expecting to find it a mere evasion"

几分钟后她抓着钱包就冲去Lidgate要个解释 到了后发现Ann正在等她 ‘We kissed and she was affectionate as usual’

煤老板说没想到会是以这种方式被告知结果 然后表明了自己的立场 两人现在关系这样亲密 彼此已经建立深厚的感情纽带 自己是不可能回到从前了 加上她内心觉得这早已超越了普通友谊 and she was losing patience 所以煤老板认为 只要Ann还是犹豫不决 一起出国旅行的事情就取消

Miss Walker本来还说11月2日赠的一缕阴毛让煤老板误解了 后来意识到会失去她 Ann立马就不犹豫了 Miss Walker's hesitation all but vanished

因此Anne在日记里冷冷地写道：好了她现在倒是乐意跟我一起旅行了

回Shibden的路上煤老板对Miss Walker不明朗的态度非常纠结 然后又开始给自己进行思想建设 'Well, it is an arrow and perhaps a lucky escape. Thank God for all his mercies'

当晚在日记里说打算第二天重新制定明年1月的旅行计划 leaving Miss Walker and her indecision behind

11月6日 Anne决定不去想这件事 转移注意力到Shibden的生意上 但是她发现自己没法不去找Miss Walker 所以身体很诚实的Anne当天忍不住去了一趟Lidgate 虽然Miss Walker很开心她来 但是气氛却不算融洽 'I have kissed her but in a common way' 然后就没有然后了I left her with no pleasant feeling, saying to myself damn her....I do not think her answer will be yes, and the more easily reconciled I am the better. Shall I dislike her by and by? At least I shall be more at liberty without her.

11月7日Miss Walker又收到了贱男的信 里头恶心吧唧的话【这个形容词是我加的 可能曲解了但是我不管】证实了煤老板的猜测：贱男是来求爱的

Miss Walker一直哭 最后坦白了她跟Ainsworth的不当关系...she felt bound to him by some indiscretion. He had taught her to kiss

It was unclear exactly how intimate Miss Walker had been with Mr Ainsworth 尽管她说 ’they had never gone as far as she and I [Anne] had done‘ 但她内心却觉得自己犯下了最恶劣的通奸行为 并为此深受折磨 而且从道德上出发觉得自己有义务要嫁给他

煤老板气得不行 一边谴责贱男一边为Ann说好话 说是他占了你便宜 你并没有什么该死的义务呀

煤老板的话卸去了Ann心中的一块大石 然后她就答应了Anne 'Amazingly, it was at this moment that she finally accepted Anne Lister's proposal'She asked if I would take her and gave me her word....hoped I should find her faithful and constant to me. Thus in a moment that I thought not of was I accepted and the matter settled

不过煤老板 近几个月来一直在纠结Ann’s virginity以及who taught her kiss....Privately, Anne Lister was circumspect. She took Miss Walker's admission of her connection with Mr Ainsworth as proof that she had beed deceiving her about her level of sexual experience.

这段时期其实很关键我还是多写一点吧

因为Ann是一个非常虔诚的人 deeply God-fearing, and the periods of depression that had marked her life to date had been characterised by bouts of religious mania 她跟Reverend Ainsworth的过往让她内心烙上了深深的罪恶感和羞耻感 现在那段不堪的记忆突然抖出来 这简直就是催化剂 逼她开始面对她跟煤老板的这种【在那个年代啦】越轨行为

煤老板就比较不一样 had spent years combing the bible for passages that helped her to understand her lesbianism as God-give quality

第二天11月8日 Miss Walker承认说Ainsworth曾经强迫她和他发生性关系 煤老板直接破口大骂这个无耻下流的混蛋 Miss Walker还说她戴的红宝石戒指就是他送的【????哈??? 】 煤老板直接给摘下来了说 she would see nor hear of it no more

11月9日她去Lidgate发现Ann毫无生气的瘫在床上 哎当然是安慰女朋友啦 Though she 'talked and reasoned her into being all appearance better', Anne noted that there was 'no foot or queer washing' in Anne's ablutions(这里是不是应该是Ann啊 应该是Ann的心病导致她意志减退 然后影响到个人卫生了), that her personal hygiene was beginning to suffer. It was in contrast to Anne's own fastidious cleanliness

Miss Parkhill也来了

陪她读圣经 各种安抚也没用 Ann还是继续消极地瘫在沙发上 甚至开始反悔对Anne的承诺 求她先不要买戒指 'she chould not wear it in mourning'

因为Miss Parkhill在 煤老板得注意自己的行为 如果她起了疑心 这可能会加重Miss Walker的焦虑

Ann又开始踌躇不前 又对煤老板说我可能不会跟你一起旅行了你看我现在身体这么弱

当天日记里也记载Ann的退却 'She said.... she should be a deal of trouble to me if I had her' 虽然煤老板内心有犹豫想着要么就拜拜吧 但是她还是坚持了下去 说会做任何事只为让Ann的健康好起来 并提议说再去找Belcombe医生

不过渐渐地 Anne对Miss Walker的'moody melancholy pother'越发觉得心累

11月23日 决定归还Miss Walker的钱包 'and 'yes' and be off'

Ainsworth越来越多的来信更加重了Miss Walker的不安 这货竟然还【敢】寄来戒指说是为了纪念他逝去的妻子 随着Ann的情绪变差 煤老板由此开始制定1月份的独自旅行计划

两个人肉体上依然还是很有亲密的 但煤老板又开始觉得或许得有个男人才能满足Ann 她作为一个女人 she would 'never satisfy her' 私底下她又开始问Miss Walker跟Ainsworth的历史 Anne convinced herself that he had' deflowered her and enjoyed her' (11月25日)

当天下午她从Lidgate回去的时候被一个陌生人威胁了 还好并没有打架

接下来两天就又是煤跟Mariana的事情【这两者总是成批出现】

M来信又是抱怨 觉得她老公Charles真是老不死 虽然她依旧是想等老公去世然后跟Anne同居

不过现在在Anne看来 她跟M的这段关系似乎已经结束了 11月27日日记里写道 'M's thought of ever being with me is quite gone by'

11月29日周四 煤老板收到了Miss Walker的邀请 请她周六去Lidgate 这里煤老板应该是回了张便条吧 书里没有提 但这个便条是第二天Miss Walker的发病原因

11月30日James紧急通知说Miss Walker生病了 脱不开身的煤老板先是让James传了一张安抚信 快速地交代了一下事宜后就赶去了Lidgate 虽然在场Sunderland医生是看病的那个 但是作出诊断的是Anne 她认为Miss Walker发烧是因为Belcombe医生的处方

Ann又发作是因为她以为她永远地失去了煤老板 昨天她焦虑了一整天 因为煤老板的便条让她觉得一切都结束了 然后她无法承受 煤老板一脸懵逼 'Could not think what she meant. It was that I had concluded with 'affectionately yours' leaving out 'faithfully'?'【有日记的小伙伴可以看一眼29号的日记里有没有提呀】

Miss Walker还顺便打了Miss Parkhill的小报告 说她趁着煤老板不在说坏话【在煤老板赶去Lidgate之前Parkhill就气鼓鼓地离开了 肯定是因为无法改变Ann的心意 恩肯定是这样】

If Anne Lister's attitude seems hubristic, nobody else seemed able to give Ann a level of support approaching that which she was offering 煤老板是真的非常关心Ann的健康状况 想着让Ann多走动走动 不要老在客厅里焦虑自己的病

由于Miss Walker的健康问题所以目前无法做出决定 Anne Lister reinstated 1st January 1833 as her decision deadline 同时为了争取更多的时间 Ann说要写信问问远嫁苏格兰的姐姐Elizabeth的意见

当晚回去Ann写信跟M倾诉自己的蓝色忧郁 顺便提了两句为了之后的旅行自己需要一位男仆来拎包 但是还是没有聊她跟Miss Walker的事情

1832年快结束了 Miss Walker的心疾越发严重 连门都不想出了 就算Elizabeth的回信建议她跟煤老板旅行 她还是无动于衷

12月7日 Vere从罗马来信 各种夸自己的丈夫'affectionate nature' 因为他父亲的死所以Donald Cameron继承了twentry-third Chief of Lochiel 【我去维基查了一下 太惨了 有第22任的页面 有第24/25/26任的页面 就是没有他的】

煤老板回信里给她安利了旅行的书还有一些攻略 并真心祝他们幸福【恭喜释怀】

之后几天就是跟剧里一样Mariana给她推荐了个男仆 跟Rawson们谈判加条件【如果漏水要收500罚金之类】 以及其他

By the end of 1832 she was resigned to the fact that her situation with Miss Walker was now one of complete hopelessness. 既然Ann无法做出承诺 那么就这么结束吧

1832年12月31日Miss Walker fretted and cried and sighed and said she should not live long. I proposed her returning her notes, and having mine.

在日记回顾了这一年不太顺利的感情经历后她写道:I have never stood so alone and yet am far happier that I was twelve months ago - in fact, happier than I have been for long, I am used and reconciled to my loneliness.

相信自己跟Miss Walker是真的结束了Anne又问自己: 'What adventure will come next? Who will be the next tenant of my heart?' 【哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈 小姐 你愿做我的心房客嘛】

Miss Walker去了苏格兰 煤老板42岁啦

The year 1833 began badly.

1月1日她非常喜欢的辕马 因为生病所以被痛痛快快地:此处其实是Mr Pickles解决的

虽然与Ann的关系结束了 但是这位女孩子是不会就这么从煤老板的生活中消失的This girl, without really having my esteem or affection, somehow or other, unhinges me whenever I see her. (31st December 1832)

Seeing her always unhinges me. I was low and in tears at dinner and could not get her out of my head and why? For if I had her what could I do with her? (1st January 1833)

毕竟煤老板还是很担心Ann的精神状况 也在一直照顾她

Miss Walker的情况是更加糟糕了 因为焦虑经常失眠 好不容易睡着了又会突然夜惊 甚至还有了强迫症和广场恐怖症 Symptoms of obsessive compulsion and agoraphobia accompanied her bouts of mania.

煤老板发现自己想保护Ann 但是又心累那些melodrama

年初的这几周 Anne一直想各种办法来减轻Miss Walker的痛苦 让Ann在床边放一碗粥 'kept hot up, to be taking on awakening in the night' 以及取下钟锤 这样前半夜就不会吵到她了

为了照顾Miss Walker 那时候Anne依旧经常在Lidgate过夜Talked and reasoned calmly, then turned, and pretended to sleep. She refused all affection, and I did not press it. She scarcely, I think, closed her eyes until after 3, when I bade her say the Lord's prayer incessantly until I think she dropped off into a doze for a little.....(11th January 1833)

煤老板觉得自己显然是对Miss Walker最好也最有影响力的人了 她从未质疑过自己想保护Ann的心 但是照顾她的情绪压力也越来越重 所以1月10日 Anne决定写信给Walker的家人们 'I must write to her sister, or get rid of all of this in some way'

Catherine Rawson 被遣去Lidgate照顾Miss Walker 然后完全被她表亲的状态吓到了

Reverend Ainsworth还是一直有来信 煤老板直接寄过去一封赤裸裸的威胁信 基本就是你别来骚扰Ann了 要不然就等着你们的事情被曝光吧

乐色男被吓坏啦 说我再也不了 并希望Miss Walker不要揭发他 要不然的话她的形象也会受影响

【这件事总算过去了】

1月11日她收到了George Sutherland的信 信里写道因为Miss Walker早之前写过信给他 那封信的口气让他略担心Walker的情况 感觉比他们想象中的要严重许多 所以希望Anne可以告知一下真实的情况

煤老板立马就回信建议他以生意为由可以过来接Miss Walker过去 夫人就不必来了毕竟刚刚产下一娃 加上还要照顾其他孩子 同时问是否可以写信咨询Belcombe医生

Sutherland南下的事情在进展中 煤老板抽了点时间回去Shibden处理一些事情 比如其中就是仿个桥create a miniature replica of the Simplon Pass 之前她去瑞士的阿尔卑斯山时很喜欢这张图片75k 你们知道我传了多久吗

煤老板劝Ann同意去Inverness 她很诚实地告诉了Ann这次分离所带来的意义 以及their contract must be limited, and discreet

1月22日日记说觉得最好两人之间不要通信 有什么事情可以问Ann的姐姐 加上自己要出国旅行 并不能确定信能到达到哪里 她连开头跟署名都谨慎地想好了 ‘must begin with My Dear Miss Walker, and end with, Very Truly Yours.’

Ann不想去苏格兰啊 绝望地恳求能否跟煤老板一起在欧洲旅行 煤老板非常小心翼翼地说时机已经过去了 但是在接下来的一年里 如果Ann觉得没有我就不行 then she must send for me back again 这因此能给Miss Walker一点小小的希望 让她觉得 all is not, or needs not be, quite at an end between us

其实私底下 Anne觉得Miss Walker能康复的概率不大 并且在Ann同意去苏格兰后她觉得如释重负

有趣的是 Miss Walker的病反而使得煤老板跟Catherine Rawson成了朋友 之前因为各种流言蜚语Catherine还曾认为煤老板是'the worst dangerous friend and the worst enemy' 现在亲眼见到煤老板对Ann的体贴照顾 觉得自己错了并道了歉

友谊的小细节之一: Anne被Catherine借给她的一本书<Consolations in travel, or, The last days of a philosopher>迷住了 她也送给Catherine一个定制的印章作为礼物

因为信任Anne所以Catherine也跟着劝Miss Walker去苏格兰 以及被告诫不要告诉她们家族的任何人关于Miss Walker真实的病情

1月31日 Ann又恳求煤老板去Lidgate过夜 由于当天雪下得很大 考虑到安全问题姑姑Anne坚决反对煤老板出门 从下午4点一直到晚上11点大雪才停 那时候煤老板也根本没办法过去 Ann Walker's distress at the prospect of a night without Anne was stiflingPoor soul, she is quite beside herself and I cannot stand all this long

然后记录了一下室温 41华氏度(5摄氏度) 就上床就寝了【对温度的执念✔️】

2月1日收到Elizabeth Sutherland的来信 对方希望煤老板能送Ann来苏格兰 说家里一个新生儿 加上另一个孩子得了麻疹 非常需要丈夫 而且并没有提及Belcombe医生的事情

考虑到她目前对Ann的付出 加上来回费用 Anne Lister回信婉拒了请求

一周后Anne又收到了Sutherland的回信说他将跟他的老母一起南下接Miss Walker 预计2月16日会到Well, there is at last a prospect of me being free of all this once again (9th February 1833)

Ann提议烧掉她们短暂订婚的纪念品: the purse with the 'yes' note in it 然后就真烧了.... At last, threw it into her fire, purse and 'yes' in it. I, glad enough to get rid of anything like a tie. (9th February 1833)

2月11日Catherine Rawson告别了Lidgate

In a mark of their new intimacy, 煤老板说会帮Catherine咨询Belcombe医生关于她的月经问题 'three-year stoppage of her cousin'【3年没来大姨妈了啊....我去.....】

2月16日Sutherland如期赶到了Lidgate 煤老板又没忘记在日记里暗搓搓地说'good people, but almost vulgar-ish' 第二天仍在日记里吐槽两个人不行 老太太vulgar 指甲还脏兮兮的 Captain Sutherland感觉是个心地善良的人吧但是明显出身不行

离别的前一天晚上被详细地记录在日记里 摘几句:Grubbled her last night, she on the amoroso, and wanted to be near to me - that is , have my drawers off. But I thought it better not. She would sleep in my arms, and snored so shockingly I could scarce bear it. Gooded myself with the thought of its being the last night.

2月18日离别那天上午 Ann跟Captain Sutherland去了Cliff Hill一一告别 就只剩Anne跟Sutherland老太独处 老太聊起来想让有钱的Ann嫁给自己败家外甥 如剧里一样煤老板直接怼了回去 这其实也引起了Anne的同情心 可怜Miss Walker无依无靠又是有钱适龄 she was indeed the valuable commodity who might be used to further the financial interest of her kin

对Anne来说Miss Walker的钱确实是很有用的资源 但是might only be tapped after a mutual and meaningful romantic pledge 而且同样重要的是她自己也会为partnership贡献一点小小的收入

趁着大家准备行李的时候 煤老板给Elizabeth写了张便条 说希望通过她了解Ann的情况 不想困扰Miss Walker所以将不会跟她直接通信 Anne's resolve not to communicate directly with Miss Walker during her recovery in Scotland was a deliberate attempt to open an emotional space between them

下午刚过1点 Ann Walker启程 煤老板自感悲伤但又觉得是解脱

All told, she felt she had made a narrow escape

下午以Mss Walker为名处理完一系列零散的事情后 终于终于终于终于能回到之前的routine了

She enjoyed the opportunity to re-establish her routine of home improvements and reading

旅游爱好者煤老板开始着手安排接下来的旅行 钱一直是个大问题

虽说尽量减了一些预算 但还是凑得很艰难 'To pay everything I shall want eleven hundred pounds and cannot make up more than seven'

她向Rawson的银行申请了£2000的信用证 结果却被Christopher Rawson拿来欺负Marian说她姐姐把Shibden的地契押在了银行来贷款

4月22日她找Christopher Rawson来Shibden对峙 维护妹妹这一行为让这姐妹俩短暂的家庭和睦了一会会 然后6月2日又吵起来了🤷🏻♀️ they fell back into theri usual arguments

3月2日 煤老板首次收到关于Miss Walker的消息 Captain Sutherland说Ann现在好多了不需要任何medical advice 只需要新鲜空气和锻炼 旅途过程中也没有出现任何问题

Ann Walker appeared keener to bridge the geographical and emotional distance between them

3月13日Anne收到了一份巨大的礼物 她本以为是她在苏格兰的朋友寄给她的 打开一看是一张圆形红木桌 上面有一份给姑姑Anne的便条 时间地点为了1833年2月25日爱丁堡 内容大致是Miss Walker希望煤老板能收下这份礼物 My aunt thinks Miss Walker means not to let me escape her.

3月14日下午 煤老板跋涉积雪去拜访Walker的姑母 当晚就打破了不通信的规定 给Miss Walker起草了一份非常high-flown的信 ’feeling may be quick without being transient and that which has lasted a dozen years, is neither the empty bubble of a moment, nor the vain imagining of an idle dream.‘

第二天煤老板转头一想 感觉不应该给Ann带去虚假的希望 加上她的姐姐和姐夫可能会经手她的信件往来 所以就把内容改了下

就此两人有了些联系 从Ann来信的口吻煤老板判断Miss Walker的情况时好时坏

3月26日Vere的来信各种聊她在意大利的旅行经历 【末了顺便在煤老板心中开了一枪】 :'......and I suppose at Paris by the 15th April. Do you recollect anything of consequence on that day?'

煤老板翻了去年的日记 恩 1832年4月15日 Captain Cameron向Vere求了婚

哦 呵呵。然后拖了将近一个月(4月21日)煤老板才回复Vere 基本意思是'是的呢 我记得呢 我怎么可能忘呢' 然后祝福

1833年4月3日煤老板42岁生日 她依旧对未来很乐观 'I am more single than ever, un-companioned and alone. Yet still, I feel happier than this time last year.'

然后她花了12个小时拍打整理书 然后摆放在她在新弄好的图书馆过道的书架上

我们领了圣餐！

【6.25 第一季完结撒花】

旅行达人煤老板第一次出远门是在1806年8月25日15岁的时候 她激动地在日记里写道: 'Rode with Mr Mitchelll to Bacup - the first time I was out of Yourkhire'

成年后的Anne越发喜欢旅行 而且目的地越新奇越好 it did not satisfy her to leave England for a week or two, throughout her adult life she spent months at a time away from home.

在那个靠四轮马车和蒸汽机的年代(其实也就是第一次工业革命末期) 长途跋涉出国旅行并不是一件容易的事情 她出发前就已经把每段的停留点规划好了: York, Leamington, London 然后南海岸渡海begain her travels through the continent 但是终点还没有想好 (7月17日的时候定为哥本哈根)

1833年6月16日 Anne离开了Shibden. Her farewell to Aunt Anne and Marian was brisk

经过近5个小时的车程煤老板到达York 却发现新招的男仆Thomas跟女仆Eugenie都不在 他俩本来应该如之前安排的在Black Swan聚首 结果换来煤老板生气地等这迟到的两人 第一印象就这么崩了 其实之后的行程煤老板对这位女仆的意见非常多

6月17日和18日煤老板陆续拜访了几位老朋友 其中包括Mariana的姐姐/妹妹 — Harriet Milne(撩过✔️) 不惑之年的Anne决定低调一点 点到为止绝不过火 'latterly rather flirting but not much'

见Harriet的那天 也就是6月17日 她俩还去精神病院看望了煤老板的初恋Eliza Raine

1805年14岁的Anne跟Eliza在约克的Manor School相遇并相恋 后来两人分了手 Eliza也因为精神问题去了精神病院 不过煤老板一直都跟她保持联系直到她去世 至1833年 Eliza已经在精神病院呆了快20年

6月19日煤老板抵达Leamington去找Mariana 尽管Anne之前在日记里各种提Mariana meant very little to her 但是她之前故意去撩Harriet是很明显地想让Mariana吃醋【煤老板你是42还是4岁】Mariana's lack-lustre reaction让煤老板很震惊也很沮丧'I was really affected. In tears'

6月28日煤老板发现自己和Shibden只是Mariana的plan B 因为William Lawton(her newphew-in-law)之死让她失去了未来的保障 本来她老公Charles死了之后 William会继承Lawton Hall 她也知道Charles是不会给她留半毛钱的 所以本可以依靠William 现在William却因意外先走一步

'She owned the other day that if William had not died she would not have tried to get me back' 这使得两个人的关系更加僵化了 性生活也非常索然无味

7月3日两人到达伦敦【本来还想看书里有没有说温度计的事情 好气 没有】煤老板天天跑去跟她的上流圈子交际 完完全全地忽略Mariana了 M整天就非常无聊 甚至有一次她还跟踪煤老板 看她去了哪里

7月10日Charles Lawton也到了伦敦 the situation had deteriorated further 而且似乎在Anne跟Miss Walker献殷勤的时候 Mariana had been playing up to the pointed charms of Cheshire man, a Mr Willoughby Crewe 煤老板听到Lawton夫妇很大声地吵架 最终她下定决心不管Mariana了 继续独自旅行

不过7月9日跟10日两天 她也是忙着在伦敦街头搜罗给Vere迟到的结婚礼物 决定送coffee pot之后还在日记里各种纠结价格【穷字当头】

7月16日走访Vere 去看她新出生的女儿 日记里感觉气氛很融洽'Laughed and told V, if she liked the coffee pot and I would have the credit of the choice, if not, all the blame should be on Lady S'

因为答应了她的朋友Madame de Bourke送她的外甥女回丹麦 由此煤老板敲定了北上的计划 7月18日煤老板从伦敦启程去巴黎 与那个外甥女Sophie Ferall会和 并把她送去她在哥本哈根的姐姐Countess Emily Blucher

之前说到煤老板对女仆Eugenie的第一印象就很不好 7月28日的日记里更是深刻地吐槽了一番 吐槽说她一点作为女仆的基本礼节都没有'Walks before me, begins the conversation, and tonight took her place almost in front of me from a gent who offed it, and kept it to the exclusion of a young lady, a friend of the gent's!!!' 不过Eugenie也是有优点的 比如8月1日的时候 她跟Anne做了一份米饭布丁尝试和解 煤老板就如此被收买了 'we can possible keep up going on as well as we do now, I shall think of my servants as treasures' 这时候 煤老板一行人已经在巴黎了 书里提到了一下她花钱如粪土的细节 以及到处买礼物送给学术圈的朋友们

8月2日 她跟Sophie Ferrall碰头 日记里描写对小姑娘的第一印象非常好【很难得煤老板会对人印象好】 'pretty looking', 'nice, sensible girl'

不过启程去哥本哈根之前 煤老板先给小姑娘打了预防针说 她们不会直接去丹麦not be going direct to Copenhagen 因为煤老板还想顺路去其他地方转转 Sophie没有说什么 很可能是当时没有完全理解'not going direct'是什么意思

8月8日 煤老板收到了Elizabeth Sutherland寄来的满满3页的信 说Ann身体好点了 但是精神状态还是很差 由于煤老板对Ann的影响无人可及' that there is no individual living by whom she(Ann Walker) would be so much influenced' 所以想咨询她的建议

Ann Walker had, she said, been waiting anxiously to hear from her. Despite the ocean's distance between them. she maintained a feeling of moral duty towards Miss Walker's wellbeing 因此第二天 煤老板回复了一封诚意满满的信 完了又附了个addendum to the letter which demonstrates an impulse to include something more heart-felt

整个旅行中Anne一直都在想着Ann Walker 精神上和身体上都想 she remained a sexual preoccupation too, the coded words 'incurred a cross thinking of Miss Walker' appearing at regular intervals in her diary over the coming months

1833年8月18日 一行人离开了巴黎 放一段感觉好符合煤老板性格的旅行描写 Anne's carriage veered up hills, down tracks, over narrow bridges into the cobbled streets of the villages of rural France and Germany 每天结束的时候 疲惫不堪的众人会在能找到的随便什么旅馆过夜 煤老板又开始吐槽 over-priced and under-par 有洁癖的Anne不想睡在脏兮兮的床单上 就经常穿着大衣睡觉 她还发现Sophie小姑娘有时候太累以至于slept 'without nightcap and in her day shift'(25th August 1833)

累归累 煤老板还是玩得很开心 这8、9月的日记里都是路上见闻和风土人情描写 但是一心想回丹麦的Sophie开始有点不耐烦了Miss F so little thinking of my pleasure. I had said this morning, sorry for the delay but really I might have been a month longer but for her anxiety to get to Hamburg...Her German has served me little (7th September 1833)

煤老板真是个熊孩子

看剧的时候 我总觉得两个人应该会搞点什么 没想到还真的搞了点什么 不过两个人也就是互相挑逗一下打发时间而已 this diversion seemed no more than a game to Anne

'She sits on my knee tonight and has kissed me these three nights but I do it all very properly' 似乎Sophie小姑娘跟Miss Walker有点像 两个人都有点 low self-esteem

9月11日日记写道:’ She sat on my knee this evening. I tell her she is not ugly and she is well enough inclined to flirt with me but I am very prudent‘

书里顺便提到了Sophie之后的故事 拒绝了那位有钱但比她大20岁的俄罗斯老头后 她在1841年的时候嫁给了意大利著名革命家Federico Confalonieri 虽然两个人的婚姻只持续了5年Federico就去世了 从书信中能看出两个人互相爱慕 各种夸来夸去 Sophie还真做到了

而且Sophie也由Federico接触到了一个全新的社会圈子 比如Rossini, Verdi, Liszt, Victor Hugo, Balzac和Alexis de Tocqueville后来都成了她的圈内好友

基本上是熊孩子煤老板想到处玩 Sophie小姑娘只想回家 两个人对对方也开始不耐烦 煤老板还在9月13日的日记里吐槽人家的小狗打呼 'Should have been comfortable enough without Miss Ferrall and her snoring, disagreeable little dog'

所以在9月17日当一行人终于坐上了Travemünde的轮船前往最终目的地时 双方都感觉到了解脱 Anne日记里说我再也不要旅行同伴了 末了还加了一句说Sophie was 'the most disagreeable girl I ever saw'

之后在哥本哈根的两个月Anne过得很开心 学学德语啦 读读书 写写游记 定期散散步 当然还有繁忙的社交活动 她周围的人心智也都非常高 intellectually stimulating 【让你无处吐槽！】

提几个小插曲 其实主要是想记录一下时间线

在第一波到哥本哈根的信件中没有Elizabeth从苏格拉的回信 煤老板略惊讶'perhaps she did not quite like my last' (9月19日)

Mariana的来信中说我听说吧哥本哈根是'the court of dullness' 大家都说你肯定不会喜欢丹麦的 煤老板直接怼回去she had not had any 'time to find it so' (9月21日) 她还详细告诉了M她的社交活动安排 以及一反常态的夸Sophie说非常好的旅行同伴 'very pretty', 'very agreeable and useful' 这是用来刺激M的

10月23日晚上被引荐给丹麦王后然后下跪错了人Unluckily took the chief maid for the Queen because of her broad and ribbon and star.

Amidst the excitement of preparing for the party, Anne's thoughts turned to Ann Walker.

10月15日 姑姑Anne的来信里提到Miss Walker有意向回到Halifax 'though she had not mentioned it to Mrs Sutherland, on account of her not being well' 10月30日的日记又提 'I have thought much about Miss Walker lately' 以及思考为什么还没有收到Mrs Sutherland的回信 还想着是否再写一封信问问看

10月30日王后的生日派对描写 这里就不多说了 总之煤老板一身白

两个仆人是完全不让人省心 极其不称职 弄丢她的衣服 找不到钥匙 尤其是Eugenie经常在未经许可的情况下偷偷溜出去

11月19日Anne收到家里的来信 A worrying letter arrived from Marian about Aunt Anne's 'exceedingly precarious state of health' 前两页附上了Dr Kenny的诊断 煤老板陷入了挣扎 一方面凭她对Marian和Dr Kenny的了解 一个经常小题大做’alarmist‘ 一个就爱添油加醋 姑姑的实际病情可能没那么严重 但是另一方面她又不想冒这个风险 her aunt's health was too dear to her to run the risk

一周后(11月28日) 煤老板决定启程回去看看Aunt Anne

回程的艰辛比剧里表现的难得多了 风大浪大 煤老板还因此严重晕船I was really sick and got rid of all my tea and bread and butter....I can stand all this motion (11th December 1833)

The rough water made me sick immediately. Threw myself on the hard covered bench at the foot of the cot and sick and retching almost incessantly for the next 11 hours(12th December 1833)

1833年12月15日 历经15天的旅行 疲惫不堪头发凌乱的三个人终于在Gravesend的码头着陆 Apart from having splashed her face with cold water, Anne had not washed, or removed her clothes, for the last fifteen days.

接下来的5天里 Anne什么都没写 但是在12月23日Mariana寄给她的信里可以推断 煤老板应该是在16日-20日期间去过Lawton Hall

12月21日煤老板终于到达Shibden 她果然猜对了 就是Marian和Dr Kenny这两个人在小题大做 姑妈的身体虽然还是不好 但没有到病危的程度 15天未能换洗衣服冒着生命危险赶来那还能怎么样 当然是谴责啦 不知道日记里是不是也有记载说Dr Kenny说自己出于好意才写信 反正事实上他可是认认真真地把锅甩给了Marian

12月27日 Anne Lister收到了Ann Walker的信 It conveyed a remarkable coincidence

Miss Walker已经离开了苏格兰并在圣诞前夕到达了Lidgate 她对煤老板的突然返乡一无所知 until she had called at the hall, to see Anne's aunt and uncle【书里这里有个错误吧 Anne的叔叔早就去世了...】当煤老板得知此事的时候she was fifty miles away, at the Norcliffe's estate near York

Anyway两个人很快定好1月初的时候见面 Miss Walker was as eager as ever to see Anne

煤老板激动地在日记里说'How extraordinarily my return and hers too so close and unexpected on each other! (27th December 1833) ' 还加了个叹号哟 她也立马告诉了Mariana这件事情

M回信里比煤老板多了两个叹号 还说哇这是你注定的缘分哇 'Miss Walker returned to Lidgate!!! Fred, is this to be your fate?'

1月4日 Anne made the familiar brisk journey on foot from Shibden to Lidgate 【哈哈神清气爽的样子】 Miss Walker精神状态看起来好多了 10个月没见了 两个人可是有一肚子话要跟对方说 就这样从前一晚一直聊到第二天早上4点

Miss Walker说后悔离开了她 还说贱男Mr Ainsworth又给她写信 她有一次差点动了结婚的念头 但随后放弃了 ’Her sister told him she was not able to judge for herself, but he did not mind that, so both Captain and Mrs Sutherland got annoyed at him.' 【jajajajajajajajajajajajajaja】

Ann似乎是明确了自己想跟Anne在一起的心 好像很有把握两个人会在一起 但是Anne倒不怎么确定 'Miss W talked as if she would be glad to take me, then If I say anything decisive, she hesitates' 而且Miss Walker突然回到Halifax是否真如她所说的单纯就是想远离Sutherlands夫妇俩? Was Anne only the second reason for her return?

煤老板现在已经没有精力也没有意愿再回到之前那样一直在兜圈子的关系 如果两个人会有未来 她想让Miss Walker能真正地commit to her 交换戒指 以及在上帝面前与她一起领圣餐

2月10日 Anne Lister stated her case for their union a final timeShe agreed and it was understood she was to consider herself as nobody to please and being under no authority but mine.

1834年2月12日 the decision appeared final 她们将要许下婚誓对彼此做出承诺 'She is to give me a ring and I her one in token of our union, as confirmed on Monday' 煤老板还在2月21日里的日记里对她们未来的幸福生活充满希望

2月27日两个人终于交换了戒指 As they travelled together towards a call at the Norcliffes' estate, the pact was quietly made. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

尽管还要再等一个月两个人才会在Goodramgate教堂领圣餐 但是交换戒指已经让煤老板have complete confidence in their bond 之前性生活的时候煤老板是不肯裸露自己的 因为觉得没有commitment 交换戒指的当晚she allowed herself to be 'near' to AnnNo drawers on last night. First time and first attempt to get really near her. Did not succeed very well but she seemed tolerable satisfied.(27th February 1834)

【这里有书和日记的小伙伴我有一点疑问 书里说2月27日交换了戒指 然后that day 她完全地对Miss Walker毫无保留 但是日记27日写的是no drawers on last night? 所以其实应该是26日？】

Miss Walker虽说同意搬去Shibden 但是还不想公开与Anne的伴侣关系 remained reticent about going public with her decision to live as Anne's companion. 感觉挺像已经出柜的另一半希望你跟家人出柜吧...Anne对未来同居生活的美好憧憬有一部分是因为家人都很支持她啊 书里着重提了一下妹妹Marian对她跟Miss Walker的结合非常高兴Both my father and Marian seem pleased about Miss W. Said I thought I should be happier with her than I should now be with Mrs Lawton, to which Marian seemed to agree without the least surprise (7th March)

四天后 煤老板也帮了Marian一把 帮她给她的求爱者写了一封拒信

1834年3月30日上午10:35 Anne Lister和Ann Walker一起迈入教堂领了圣餐

To Anne Lister, their commitment had been solemnised. They had been joined together in the eyes of God.

1834年9月 Miss Walker正式搬进了Shiben. Lister家族自然是非常欢迎 但是Walker的亲戚们倒没那么热情 他们解释是煤老板唯利是图 强势地拐走了他们的亲戚 抛弃了Ann在Cliff Hill年迈的姑妈 Making their feelings clear over the coming years 他们经常不请自来去Shibden找Miss Walker 还拒绝认可煤老板或跟她握手

虽说两人的关系并没有改善Ann的焦虑症 两个人还经常在钱上有分歧 Anne Lister had found the domestic security she had craved all her life

1835年2月10日 两个人的一周年纪念日【神一般的纪念日日期 难道不是应该挑换戒指或者领圣餐那天吗？？？？好吧不过也有道理】Ann and I had excellent plumb pudding today in commemoration of the first anniversary of being together so comfortable and so happily — may we live to enjoy many more

1836年老爹Jeremy跟姑姑Anne在几个月里相继去世 同一年Marian离开了Shibden搬去了Market Weighton

Mariana最终接受了Anne和Ann在一起生活的事实 1836年11月 M来Shibden呆了一周 气氛竟然非常友好 ‘M really likes Ann — and the liking is mutual’ (7th November 1836) 其实偶尔M有试着去撩煤老板 但是煤老板拒绝了一切亲密的行为

1840年9月在俄罗斯旅行途中Anne因发烧最终去世 Miss Walker花了6个月的时间把煤老板的遗体带回Shibden 【虽说早已经知道这个 但是自己敲了一遍感觉还是非常心酸 Ann真的太惨了】

Ann Walker之后依旧住在Shibden 但是因为Anne的去世她精神状况开始恶化 几年后她去了约克的一家精神病院呆了一段时间后 最终搬回了Cliff Hill一直到她1854年去世
